So... this is NOT a problem with my BIG Dog, but I figured the principles would be the same on any bike and I'm hoping someone might have an idea of what's going on. I bought my girlfriend's 6 year old son an SSR 70cc Dirt Bike for Christmas. It's been running fine, and she starts it regularly to keep the battery charged. She was running the bike yesterday and the engine quit. By the way, she's up in Pigeon Forge, TN...I'm in Georgia...so I can't actually diagnose in person. She sent a few pictures and I realized that the Petcock had been closed which caused theengine to run out of fuel. I explained how to operate the Petcock and she opened it up...however, Fuel would NOT flow into the transparent Fuel Filter. This is TWICE this situation has occurred. When I bought the bike I had the shop intentionally run the bike out of fuel because I was going to transport it inside my car and I didn't want any fuel to spill out. Later, I filled the tank, opened the Petcock and tried to start the bike. I used a squirter of starting fluid and it fired right up...then quit. I realized no fuel was flowing from the tank down into the fuel filter. So...in both situations the engine was starved of fuel. Is this causing the remaining fuel in the Carburetor bowl to boil off and creating a positive pressure that then prevents fuel from flowing?
