So... this is NOT a problem with my BIG Dog, but I figured the principles would be the same on any bike and I'm hoping someone might have an idea of what's going on. I bought my girlfriend's 6 year old son an SSR 70cc Dirt Bike for Christmas. It's been running fine, and she starts it regularly to keep the battery charged. She was running the bike yesterday and the engine quit. By the way, she's up in Pigeon Forge, TN...I'm in Georgia...so I can't actually diagnose in person. She sent a few pictures and I realized that the Petcock had been closed which caused theengine to run out of fuel. I explained how to operate the Petcock and she opened it up...however, Fuel would NOT flow into the transparent Fuel Filter. This is TWICE this situation has occurred. When I bought the bike I had the shop intentionally run the bike out of fuel because I was going to transport it inside my car and I didn't want any fuel to spill out. Later, I filled the tank, opened the Petcock and tried to start the bike. I used a squirter of starting fluid and it fired right up...then quit. I realized no fuel was flowing from the tank down into the fuel filter. So...in both situations the engine was starved of fuel. Is this causing the remaining fuel in the Carburetor bowl to boil off and creating a positive pressure that then prevents fuel from flowing?

She did that and added more fuel. I thought I would have her disconnect the fuel line at the Petcock and make sure it's not stopped up. If there is any pressure inside the carb, would disconnecting the line momentarily also release that pressure?

That sounds like a good next plan. I believe it would release any built-in pressure.

Ok...I'll have her give this a try. She has a busy schedule so I don't know when she can do this. Anyway, I'll let you know how it turns out. Her little boy hasn't been able to ride it yet and I know it's killing him so I really want to solve the problem. Thanks for your input.

I just wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation to all the guys on this site. Any time I have a problem my first thought is to reach out to you guys. Furthermore, the advice is solid...unlike my experience with some of the shops/mechanics I've dealt with in the past. I do regret that I haven't been able to offer any meaningful contributions myself, except by sharing my issues and others reading the suggestions you guys post. Anyway...I thank you. My Dogs been running great and I'm looking forward to Spring.

I hope so. We were just talking about a schedule for getting together. I found an MX track close to where she lives and I'd like to take her little boy there for some practice.
