OK Rider Shakey
I have had my 09 Mastiff nearly 2 years (2 years in Oct 13 2010) and of that I have put 17,000 miles of its 18,500 miles on it with the V&H BR 2-2 with the monster baffles (or thunder monster baffles, I forget the exact name).
That was my intro for this thread. I switched to the 2-1 big radius because I am tired of the way they look, plus everywhere I have gone, I see the V&H BR 2-2 pipes. I have always been very pleased with my performance and the mileage has typically been in the lower 40's.
Last week, I bought a new set of 2-1 BR off eBay, great deal, at $394.95 and free shipping. Since I mentioned I bought the 2-1's in the for-sale area, I have been peppered with how much and where did I get them (and pictures wanted of course). Well, to help you guys out, there are 3 more sets available at

This came as far as I can tell directly from Vance and Hines. Perfect, brand new with O2 sensor pipes. If you want these pipes, go for it.
Okay, that brings me up to the point I want to bitch about the pipes. First thing I hadn't realized was that I was going to have to buy blockoff for the sensors. I realized this Friday afternoon after I had the 2-2 pipes off. I went down to Iron Lightning and elevated my ass so they could do me again and I walked out with the V&H O2 sensor blockoffs. (At this point start adding up the additional costs). I think my bill with a set of un-needed exhaust gaskets was about $50.
Ok, got the pipes on and they look great. I figure I am done (1) and will be happy with the quiet sound (2) and additional power (3). Well, wrong on all 3 things. As I was admiring the huge collector on the 2-1, I noticed that the right passenger peg was really close to the pipe. Yep, it will not go down all the way and my old lady was wanting to go to a Bandido party with me Friday night. I pulled the peg and told her the good news that her knee would not hurt as usual since she would have to hold her right leg out past the pipe (at least I thought that was funny, she didn't).
Test ride was next, so I took it out and ripped around for 5 miles. Wow, sure is quiet, basically like the stock pipes as well as I can remember. I come in and find the thread questions about 2-1 pipes. EVERYBODY was saying that you would see a big diff in power and a great sound. Fellows, coming from modified BR 2-2's that is just bullshit. I immediately felt the loss of power, especially torque. The BR 2-2's with the monster baffles have a great ear-splitting sound of great power. The stock 2-1's just are way quiet.
Next thing I bought was the V&H BR 2-1 competition baffle (add another $50). Those will be in hopefully next week (Denis Kirk had the best price). I am hopeful that they will restore the lost power (and sound) I love so much.
Next, well, my plea for the peg offsets went for basically 3 days on this board with no peg offsets showing up. But again, nice comments on how I will like the 2-1's and how great they are. Oh yes and numerous requests for pictures (as I expect this thread will do). Untill I get the pegs on it, and feel like I am done, no pictures... I found the peg offsets today on eBay, add in another $115. Here is where you get them: Big Dog Motorcycle Clevis Adapter Kit : eBay Motors (item 140374756684 end time Oct-12-10 15:07:17 PDT)
In summary, my bargain set of 2-1 pipes DO look great. I am hopeful that the competition baffle will restore the lost power and sound. Of course the peg offsets (clevis) will fix the wife problem.
Those of you who will reply with a comment of "why didn't you modify the stock 2-1 baffle", the answer is simple, there have just been noise regulations passed that are going to eventually stop all the loud pipes. At least when that happens, I can put the quiet baffle back in for the noise inspection, or to get a ticket dismissed. You know the old saying "Loud pipes save lives", well, it 's going to be more like "loud pipes cost rights". Sad, but might be too late to stop this. I encourage each of you guys to join the MRF or your local ABATE chapter. It's the only voice bikers have and they need help.
Once I get the baffles in and pegs fixed, I will update this thread.
