trans rebuild

hey guys- i'm thinking about having my trans rebuilt. long story short I over tightened the clutch adjustment rod and either broke something or put it out of alignment. there seems to be extra free play in the trans, the bike will sometimes lurch when letting out the clutch, and there is a metal grinding noise coming from the trans if I ride the engine hard.

i know it's not the clutch because I just put a brand new setup on.

is this something I should have a dealer do or should I send it into baker? I'd like the whole thing to be disassembled and put back together so whatever i broke/bent can be replaced.

any idea how much something like this would run vs getting a new DSSC trans?

Well if you overtightened the adj on the shaft then this is more than likely where your problem will be, maybe that whover installed the clutch didnt get it tight and lok tighted down good and it floating around a bit....

I wish I had more money.
If I were going to have it rebuilt I would send it to baker. They know their shit for sure.

Did you pull off the primary cover and check the throw out bearing?

When you over tightened the rod it you could have broken the retainer that holds in the bearing so it could be touching the primary case now (your grinding noise)...

I'd spend some more time investigating the clutch before going to the trouble of rebuilding the tranny. Take it to a shop and save the headache and cash. My money is on a fudged ball and ramp assembly or popped a spring or something, should be a simple fix, if not one you can do yourself.

Also, when you say there is extra "freeplay" in the transmission, what exactly are you referring to? Are you talking about mainshaft endplay?

Listen to these guys here, tightening the clutch rod shouldn't have screwed the trans, maybe the clutch.
