...to Big Dog, or not to Bid Dog...that is the question.

So I took her out last night for about fifty miles...all I can say is...why did I wait so long.
It was raining when I picked her up so into the trailer she went making this my first ride on a Big Dog.
Pulled outta my driveway and almost ended up in the ditch across the street because I wasn’t ready for the fight I’d have with the 19 foot front end on this dang thing lol.
Got her straightened out and ripping down the road and that’s exactly where she wanted to stay. The loose sand and gravel still freckling the road from the winter-breaking county trucks didn’t even phase her and that 300 ate it like candy...not as much as a slip.
I live near the St Croix river which is a national scenic waterway so naturally that’s where we headed.
The old-world, barn-spattered roads are just beautiful...full of twisties and just the perfect amount of elevation changes to ask for a throttle roll a few times each minute. The heavily wooded shoulders echoed back what the pipes let loose to us and the permagrin found its home...on both of us...I think she even winked at me. The mid-sixty degree evening was favored with and unusually soft, still and quiet sunset and after a day of chilly rain, every valley was filled with heavy clouds making my favorite glasses call for a finger as we climbed out of each one. The sun pushed onto the rock-faced limestone across the river as we climbed a rise that banked right until we looked right into that perfect scene and if I could pick a moment in time to relive at the snap of a finger...that may be it.
We rolled back into our freshly cleaned garage and turned the key. Her new spot

That’s funny about your beard.
I’ve always ridden a windshield and never realized how much loss of sound from the bike there would be without one.
That being the case, i’d Like to get one.
May I ask, where did you get yours please?
Thanks,
T

Sorry, internet crashed in the middle of that. Her number is 620-257-2009.
They are kind of hard to find. I got mine second hand because the bottom bracket was broke, and I had to make another one.

No kidding, you needed a go-pro while riding so we can see this. I got to ride yesterday. Started out misty and got worse till we all decided to head home then the sun came out. Not as nice an image as this though.

Ah yes...brings back memories of my first ride on a Dog. I got where I was going and spent the next 45 min wondering what in the world I had just done!

Welcome to the show.

Todd E.,

Glad you made the decision... I don't think you will regret it. Do as much maintenance on your own to save $ & the assurance knowing it wasn't skimped on by a lazy or ill-informed mechanic.
I've always wanted a BD bike since a dealer set up in my town many years back. I used to make it a stopping point with my kids on our bicycle rides to window shop & salivate over them but those young family days just wasn't the right time to buy. Fast forward many years and things are different now. It took me 2 years of searching for the model & features I was looking for. Other than perhaps a certain model from Redneck Engr., the Big Dog Mastiff/Pitbull was my go to choice. There is quality construction throughout when compared to other bikes that are posers. My other bike has a similar look and runs great/reliable but many of it's parts are polished just on the topside, or are chromed, hollow castings, metric style design of 1-piece motor/drivetrain, stamped steel parts, etc. The Big Dog fits me like an expensive well tailored suit. :)
