...to Big Dog, or not to Bid Dog...that is the question.

Hi Folks,
Im looking at buying an 06 k9 and am really looking for some reassurance from folks that know.
Man you can sure find a lot of negative writings out there on these gorgeous machines that would lead a guy to believe that maybe they make better museum pieces than road bikes.
Hoping I can I get some thumbs up or some other kind of note from all y’all telling me that you love your bikes. I sure would like to hear the other side of the story.
Hoping to join the club,
Todd

Do it! They can be problematic just like any bike out there but If properly serviced it shouldn’t be much of an issue. I would run the vin on it to check to see the history behind it.
What upgrades have been done if any ? Electrical system etc.. you will enjoy the k9

This is great you guys...thanks.
I just found where the site directs new member to write their initial post so I copied this over there.
Mr Benet, I can spin a wrench just fine but electrical is Greek to me.

Hi Todd, I have an 07 K9 and couldn't be happier. The EHC is the only weird issue I have experienced and replacing it took care of my problem. I would recommend a new battery if you don't know how old it is. The 117 takes some muscle to crank.

Just do it. You will have all the parts and support you need right here. I don't believe I will own anything else but a Big Dog the rest of my life. I'm hoping to one day, order one straight from the factory.

I owned my Bulldog 5 years before doing any work to it,mostly maintenance stuff, with any Vtwins you have to stay on top of things and you must enjoy tinkering in the garage, the rewards by far outweigh the negatives,at least for me,I own a CVO glide and a bulldog and they both had similar amount of maintenance issues

Maintenance? Yes. what machine does not require maintenance??? (also, click on the link in my signature block).

I bought my 06 K9 eight years ago and being based in Spain it has been/is a lot harder to get parts, etc. over there than in the US... BUT that has not stopped me, or any Big Dog over in EU ( MEMBERS - EUROPE ) to do loads and loads of trouble free miles!!!

Would I buy it again? in a heart bit!!!

Welcome from Spain.

Thanks All,
You guys are great and I really appreciate knowing there is love out the for the best looking thing on two wheels.
I did it yesterday and this morning I woke up and went out to my garage to see my new-to-me Matte Black, 06 K-9 with 3400 miles. Come on sun...let’s go!
Spaniard, thanks for those links...I won’t be afraid to dig in and use them.
Keep the rubber side down,
Todd

Hi there,
You know...just sitting here in my garage with my Biiiiig—-Dawwwwwg, K-9 :)
Thinking windshields...wondering if you’ve had much time behind what looks to be a 10”er in your photos. Great bike btw :)

Actually no. Just put it on. Never been much of a windshield guy, but I plan on putting some miles on this year, and thought I'd give it a try. I road for about an hour yesterday and noticed i had less wind in my face, but my beard felt like it was being tied in a knot.

That’s funny about your beard.
I’ve always ridden a windshield and never realized how much loss of sound from the bike there would be without one.
That being the case, i’d Like to get one.
May I ask, where did you get yours please?
Thanks,
T

So I took her out last night for about fifty miles...all I can say is...why did I wait so long.
It was raining when I picked her up so into the trailer she went making this my first ride on a Big Dog.
Pulled outta my driveway and almost ended up in the ditch across the street because I wasn’t ready for the fight I’d have with the 19 foot front end on this dang thing lol.
Got her straightened out and ripping down the road and that’s exactly where she wanted to stay. The loose sand and gravel still freckling the road from the winter-breaking county trucks didn’t even phase her and that 300 ate it like candy...not as much as a slip.
I live near the St Croix river which is a national scenic waterway so naturally that’s where we headed.
The old-world, barn-spattered roads are just beautiful...full of twisties and just the perfect amount of elevation changes to ask for a throttle roll a few times each minute. The heavily wooded shoulders echoed back what the pipes let loose to us and the permagrin found its home...on both of us...I think she even winked at me. The mid-sixty degree evening was favored with and unusually soft, still and quiet sunset and after a day of chilly rain, every valley was filled with heavy clouds making my favorite glasses call for a finger as we climbed out of each one. The sun pushed onto the rock-faced limestone across the river as we climbed a rise that banked right until we looked right into that perfect scene and if I could pick a moment in time to relive at the snap of a finger...that may be it.
We rolled back into our freshly cleaned garage and turned the key. Her new spot
Big Dog for life.
