Ray Where does the laser dot shine on when they are doing an alinement? 05chop :job:
Don't know. Never been there when they have done them. Will look in my manual and see if it says anything about it. :job:

Yes, and he believes it's an alignment issue also.
Yeah I got a lot of information I already knew from him. Ballance can cause uneven wear but I would have felt that. I put 6K miles on it since I changed out the front tire with out a wobble. Dry rot is from the bike sitting and not being riddin and exposure to the sun and cold. That's why when I bought the bike used I replaced the tire in the first place. The tread was good but the side walls were cracked. There was no abnormal wear, just dry rot. I had the tire changed out and now "Keeping in mind this is a round crowned tire" between center and right there is more wear than between center and left. This is the side tread that would only contact the gorund while cornering. I know I can get lower on the right than the left (due to left side drive the primary and the kickstand stick out quite a bit) and I do push the limits but this is more wear than should be what I would see as normal.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it should be lined up right down the middle of the frame (backbone).
Yes plus your rear axle has to be perpenticular to the centerline of the frame I believe. Hence, ensuring your left and right axle adjusters are set properly.

Yeah you're right, old build trick is to run a string down the backbone from the streering head and accross the rear tire to properly align. They have nice laser toys to align tires
wheels, belts and chains these days but we used what we had in the old days. I just though when he said out of alinment for a front tire I was missing some new fangled electromabob that had come out recently.

I didn't realize Avons were american made tires, I thought they were made in England. They sure ride nice!
They are biult in Melksham, Wilshire England. The company that owns Avon Tyre is Cooper Tire and Rubber. American based company that biulds truck and passenger tires under several brand names. :flag: :flag: :flag:

Metzler Tires

there isn't really enough difference between the two to say one is better than the other in my opinion, they are both really good tires and they both get good mileage
Some time ago, switched to Metz for the HOG, 3.x" x 21" front, and bought rear to match. I like their advertised propaganda about being engineered for better braking in the rain... Have gotten marginally better mileage with Metz than with the stock H-D rubber.

'07 K9 came with Avon, no problems, no complaints, but only about 2300 miles on it, so a bit premature to judge wear.

However: Recently heard from an acquaintance that Metzler tires are now made in South America, and there have been quality problems. Hard to research that line of thought, but would appreciate any words of wisdom.

Right you are Mick!! We are a Cooper tire dealer. I sell tons of them. Great tire. About the best for the money. Trendsetters/lifeliners are great passenger car tires. I have to look in to my distributor, see if he can get me the Avon line when I need them. Maybe I can get a wholesale price on thiose as well. Just doing my part to keep your economy rolling Mick.

Got Life?
This is a slightly older thread so I am bumping it up.....

I have 10,500 miles on my 07 Mastiffs 300 tire and I'm
getting near the tread bars on the rear 300 tire.

Older tires get hard with age so I will replace both
tires so I have a fresh compound on front & rear.

Since I am looking at new tires, (Avons)
I was wondering if anyone had any new info on tires or deals.

how the handling with the METZ tires, with the METZ having less rubber contacting the pavement how the ride on the ridgid frames. I really dont like the turning of the avons. guess im still use to the sport bike turning.

I have heard the same thing from my tyre shop in Australia.
stick with Avon:2thumbs:

I replaced the Avon's with Metzlers, much better ride from the Metzlers.

I put on a metzler this year after getting a flat with the avon. I was wondering, is there space between the tire and the belt on your 05? On my 06 ridgeback the belt is very slightly rubbing the tire.
