Those with a 300 tire

Energy One
I went on a 150 mile round trip ride Sunday on my 05 Ridgeback. Towards the end of the ride while taking a high speed highway curve the rear end felt like the the tire was rolling sideways on the rim. I had just put Dyna-beads in the day before so I figured the tire may have lost some pressure. It felt like the tire was going flat, and I was not far from the house, so after stopping and kicking the tire, which felt very firm, I continued home. Yesterday after work I put the dog on a lift and checked everything in the rear end. Tire pressure was 42 pounds, which was what I put back in after the Dyna-bead application. There did not appear to be anything loose or out of whack. I took a short test ride and still felt something akin to a flat tire. Has anyone else experenced this? This is my first bike with a wide 300 mm tire, so I suppose it could be my imagination, but I really don't think so. I do know that it's a sick feeling when you're taking a curve at about 75 mph and the rear end feels loose.:(

Have you had the rear wheel off lately? I would check alignment to ensure the wheel is square to the frame. Don't discount the front tire also. Is it worn badly?

Mine is a 300 and I have the dyna beads as well.
Something isn't right. I ride at these speeds all
the time and never experience any movement from my tire

Hmm... I put Dyna-beads in the front tire at the same time, I will check that as soon as I get home. The bike only had 1100 miles on it when I bought it so both the tires appear to be in excellent shape. I have never had either tire off the bike, but I will double check the axle. I have it raised up off the ground about a foot and I could'nt find any free play anywhere. Very puzzling...

re

Did you hear any noises coming from the back tire, or was in just feeling of unstability? I think if you were to take off that back wheel, you'll find something rotten in Denmark.

I didn't hear anything from the rear, that second part don't sound good...

I have a 300 tire with 16,500. I've never had the problem you are talking about. I just ordered the Dyna beads. I'm planning to put them in a new rear tire at my next service.

I have the 300 on my k9 and I'm on my second rear tire. Have never experenced anything like that. Somethings not right.

I think it turns like it's supposed to, but I don't have anything to compare it to except my Street Glide, which is altogether different. I have been out in the garage turning the tire, wiggling it, jerking it, pushing it, etc, almost pulled the bike off the stand trying to find some free play anywhere. Nothing. Tight as it can be. Most bizzare. :loony: ?

this may not be it, but if you havent had any real time on a big tire bike this could be it. at say, highway speed you go into a turn its all good until you really start to get the bike over then it just stops wanting to lean and you know there is more to go. this is a normal thing with these bikes having such a skinny front tire and a fat rear. for me it just went away after a little more time on it. now i dont notice it at all. hope this helps.

I get a loose woble feeling only at freeway speeds on a turn and it usually preceeded by a small or large bump in the turn

a quick question. are you looking as far into the turn as you can or are you looking right in front of the bike? if you are watching in front of the bike, it will make it harder to steer and maneuver it through the turn, causing it to feel like the back tire is not responding the way you want it to. watch the road as far ahead as possible!!!!!!!!! and don't forget, counter-steer is your friend.:2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Thanks for everybody's replys, I was hoping I would be able to take it back out tonight and try another test run, but a storm came up and I wasn't able to. Hopefully I will be able to tomorrow.

I'll have to pay more attention to exactly where I'm looking during a turn, usually I am watching for dogs, cats, deer, cagers, children, potholes, stuff like that....

ive felt it once, going up a on ramp up interstate 4,
if you lean the bike over while hard on the gas to get up to speed,
the long fork type bikes will flex side ways back and forth.
its from the side "g loads "
thats why racing bikes are [short frames]:zz2cents: :willy_nilly:
