The govt or somebody had a good a idea a few years ago but hadn't heard anything else about it: Just about everybody got a smart phone nowadays they had talked about a mandatory update that prevented texting if gps indicated you were doing more than 15 mph. I guess the right person hadn't got killed by a texting or facebooking etc driver yet. Wont be long people will be on disability for thumb problems from all the scrolling
Don't forget disability for sores on their ass's cause they don't wanna work.

Why work when I can stand at an intersection with a sign and beg? That shit is getting bad in my neck of the woods. I have worked 2 jobs for about the last 5 years of my life, and they can't work just one?

Would you vote for me if I suggested:
- Eliminate free housing
- Eliminate free food
- Eliminate anything free
- Panhandling is prohibited
- Anyone unable to sustain themselves/their family, gets relocated to government land where they're assigned a factory job to the best of their ability, however limited said ability may be.
There they'll be given food clothing, shelter, schooling for family if applicable, and commensurate pay. Anytime they decide to pay their own bills, they're free to go get a job off-site.

How do you determine drivers phone where this should be off versus passengers where it would be ok.
How would you like it if this were enacted and suddenly you can't communicate on the train/bus etc. Many business people would object.
While I'd bet the girl that hit me was texting, I understand the complexities of trying to implement this after the fact. If this was done from the get go, it would have been great, but now people are so used to instant notifications that taking that away is going to be difficult.

Eliminate everything free is onerly draconian from where we are today.
We'd be better off going "Here is a house, and food for x period during which you have to get yourself back onto the work rolls"
The difference between this and your government land/work program is government programs tend to get too big and management goes awry quickly and some people may have just had a bad run and need some breathing room to restart.
What has to end is the culture of "not working for a living" -- Helping people is one thing, permenant state sponsored support for able bodied workers is different.
Panhandling -- not sure how I feel about that -- I think I'd allow it, till there are x number of violations (disturbing the peace, trespassing etc) then make criminal after that.

Great points by all especially Steve(SB03chopper), Big D, & Big Mike. Back in the 70's our (older) local Harley Guru, mechanic, racer, & mentor(also my brothers god father, but thght was mine) would say be humble & respectful because when you think you've conquered your bike or road, brace yourself because its fixin to walk all over you. Please be cautious & defensive, after over 50 yrs of riding I've lost several biker brothers(one that wasn't as lucky as Eric in east Texas on a new chopper thru an intersection) & I don't wanna lose anymore & especially our brotherhood's. P.S. In high school I would disagree with my dad bout dangerous & blame cars, but later realized we're hurt or dead no matter whose fault - 'every day I get older, dad gets smarter'.

Was on a Ducati multistrada. If I would have been on my chopper I would have taken out an exit sign. Had I been on the SG I would have probably would have been run over. Duc just road through the hit.

In short I don’t think it matters. Every accident is different.

Even in a safe cage people get hurt.

Recently in the DC area a couple bikers passed away due to injuries sustained in accidents from being hit by a car.
I used to think the fact that I could more easily maneuver a sportbike made it safer.
Now I'm wondering if the stunning visual and loud pipes of a chopper make me more noticeable and less likely to be hit.
I used to think that until you almost get run over,, I still think the noise helps,, rattling the windows helps, but there at still way to many azz holes who are not paying attention to anything but that damn phone.

It's not just the phone. It is everything from putting make-up on to reading a book. I shit you not, I was next to a guy reading a book while driving. Hell I have seen people not paying attention and they have nothing in their hands, just dump-asses that don't pay attention. People are stars of their own movies. The masses don't cre about anything except what affects them. Just watch traffic on your way to work. It is terrible.
