Sorry for the mishap. It could have been worse, as in more flames and being stuck in BFE. Glad to hear it wasn't more serious.

Im starting to see a trend with these Big Dogs. Ive now heard 3 different stories where they will at least make it home before they cut out. Good Dog.
Well, I'm learning a few things on the BDog. No spark. VR parts source?

Here is a suggestion. That one wire that goes to the battery? I would run that wire all brand new up to the fuse breaker or whatever the connection is? I'd lay that wire on its own. Make sure it does not rub in the wind or vibrate, causing a rub-thru.

I actually have new insulation wrap due in today, so that wire and also anything around it will be well rub insulated. I do still want a little air to get to it in case a little heat is generated. I'm hoping this will resolve a lot of electrical issues Ive been having.

The I sourced the replacement VR from Cycle Electric, Roxanne was a great help. They cant sell direct to you, so she gave me the number to Doug Ingrams 513 524 3105. Who had it sent that day.

The replacement I got was the CE-320L ($128 shipped). There are 2 models, the "L" is for bikes where the battery doesnt get any air or is housed in/near the oil can. My Mastiff battery is housed under my seat so is more likely to hold heat. The "L" charges at a slightly lower voltage to generate less heat.

They also have a 2yr warranty on all their VR's. She told me the turn around, if it faults, is 2-3 days, as it "shouldn't happen". So am glad to find a replacement better than the original, made in the US and that the company stands behind.

Good stuff Cycle Electric!:2thumbs:

Load check your battery and make sure a cell isn't shorting internally which could cause excess current draw from the VR.

I see looking at the cycle electric VR that is says
"Block current to control voltage
Reduces stator current
Lowers temperature and less drag on motor
Creates more efficient operation
Smoother charge to the battery"
Would you guys say that this would be good to buy as an "upgrade" to gain the above stated benefits or just wait until if ever replacement is needed? Thanks

I wish I had more money.
I would wait until you need one. You could have an indefinite time left on your currant vr. That thing could last the life of the bike.

Make sure their are no grounds left off the battery.
According to the manual there should only be to wires on the - terminal. I have 3 (starter, horn and the EHC ground). Ive checked the other earths and am running out of options.

The weird thing is, it starts fine and everything works except the R/F turn flasher doesnt flash.

Still have the EHC? I wonder if a voltage spike fried her:confused:

Without touching anything else I can't imagine that coicendentally your flashers go.

There is a recall notice on the Votage Regulator for Big Dogs. You can find the exact recall on the internet from the .gov section. I think it's recall.gov or something. Mine also went out and there is, in fact, a recall on them. There is a number stamped on the VR and if it matches what is on the recall, you get it replaced.
Good luck!!
