I gotcha, didn’t think of it that way, his worn out engine was prolly only puttin out 50-60 hp
From what I’ve been seeing, these Big inch twins start dropping power like a brick when they start losing compression. Just a little less than the stock epa spec compression will drop considerable efficiency. Its a lot of fuel to ignite in a big cylinder, if there isn’t enough spark, compression or heat, power will degrade fast.

:oldeek: I would like to see a dyno sheet before I believe that one Broham, of coarse I did see it here on the internet:oldlaugh:
30-40 is over reaching in my opinion. The 124 with a 640 cam Crate motor from S&S is 128HP so you can figure it out from there.

But who knows...anything is possible? Right?

All I know is what was estimated by S&S using their specs to build it and Curtis did the same in his and said no doubt a minimum of 140 horses to the rear wheel.. so I'm not saying I'm right or you r wrong.. lol.. just what I'm getting..

The average S&S hi-compression crate motor, with a 58mm t-body, and a really good tune makes between 138 -140 hp.
The 585 cammed low compression S&S crate motor makes 127 -132 hp.
I'm on my 6th one in as many months. Fluffed the heads on the last one, and made 150 hp.
This one, with my head work, I'm shooting for a tad over 150.
Your engine is broken in with 100 miles on it.

Those are real world REAR WHEEL numbers. It takes a spot on tune.
99% of the S&S crate motors I've done are fuel injected Harley Davidsons. Carb bikes make a little less.
John
What size are the crate motors your doing to get those numbers, 117?

I don't know whats what and kind of dont care right now. Just put almost 2k into this fucking engine, followed instructions to a t. Torqued everything per manual and have an oil leak and it's leaking compression and the top rear rocker box still fuckin ticks!.. gotta tear her down again and figure out what the hell is what

I switched to metal gaskets instead of the factory cardboard gaskets, so I'm just going to tear her down yet again and do this all over again. Obviously I did something wrong but for the life of me I can' figure it out. Torque specs were all dead nuts on. I put 100 miles on her and in the last 15 miles or so of it I hear the pinging sound which was me loosing compression somewhere as well as my ticking which came in right at about 20 miles. Is what it is, just gotta spend more time with her. Really sucks because it' prime riding time right now!

I know that feeling when you just want to wrap it up real quick and hit the road, I usually end up with some parts left over. You are in essence performing heart surgery on your baby... step back, take a break then hit it with a clear head. I'm sure you'll find the problem... it's usually the little details that get you. I'm following your thread cause I know I'll eventually have to do some motor work.

Appreciate that. I got the parts in complete exactly a week before I knew I was going to the Rally, worked on her the whole weekend, then everyday after work. Got off at noon on Friday for the finishing touches because I waa taking my time to make sure I did everything right. I wanna say I did everything right but obviously didnt.. the only thing I know for sure is that there is something wrong with my rocker boxes that had nothing to with install because it sounds the same exact way it did before. But I'll keep everyone posted. I might look at it this week.. idk

Have you tried retorquing the head bolts? A couple of heat cycles will fit everything together and loosen the bolts a little. As for the rocker box noise, cams break in too. Maybe a quick adjust will take care of it.
