My 2006 K9 is miss reading RPMs so I replaced the tach ring. But it's not fixed and showing the incorrect RPM's. It does work sometimes and then it under reads rpm's. Example: when it should show 2500 rpm's showing 1000-1500rpm's. Sometimes it idles correctly and then will start flashing as if under idle speed. What's my next step?

On your bike the crank position sensor sends a signal to the ignition module and the ignition module sends the signal to the tach.. so you need to check the wiring under the tank and around the ignition module...also check the green wire from the ignition module to the ehc to make sure it's good...from the ehc to the tach is a yellow wire that will need to be check also.

Now to the flashing tach sometimes at a idle is from to low of a idle...if the rpms get below 900 rpms for more than a few seconds it will make the tach flash...so idle it up to around 950 to 1000 and that won't happen anymore

Both excellent answers. Mine recently started doing the same thing. However, I do not have any factory equipment mentioned above. So Im thinking I should start at the tach then the sending unit. If I recall correctly, wasnt the coil sending the signal or am I thinking of another scooter I owned? But thank you Knothead for the excellent direction.

Do you still have a crank sensor or is your bike been swapped over to the nose cone cam sensor?

Naw I don't think its the crank sensor maybe your tach or a wire connection

When was the last time you cleaned the sensor? I usually clean mine at each fluid change.

Since I have to remove it to get the oil filter off, at least twice a year.
