Tach lights Fluctuating High RPM

I've read just about every post I could find concerning tach issues, 2007 Pitbull, stock EHC, runs fine, checked every connection I could find...even replaced the Tach board with a new one, same thing. Turn signal indicators, high beam, neutral lights all work fine. Holding the throttle steady at around 3000, lights drop to 2000, then nothing, then 1500, up and down between no lights and 3000, never steady..... , very erratic..any ideas from anyone on what to do next is very much appreciated.

Forgot to add...... I also removed and cleaned the Crank sensor after reading many posts concerning this issue

Thanks in advance

Sounds like a bad ground or a short in the wire somewhere. I had a similar problem and upon further inspection there was a wire would and rub through the insulation and making contact to the frame from time to time. Good luck!

It's not a ground issue since the indicators are not affected. Does it start working right again below 3,000? Check the signal wire for damage from the tach to the ignition module. Also, the ignition module has a seperate signal wire for the tach, and could have an issue internally without affecting the way it runs.

Thanks guys, I'll double check it tonight...I plan to run a direct ground wire from the Black wire of the tach connector direct to the negative side of the battery to check the grd and do the same for the yellow wire from the connector to the ignition mod; looking at the wiring diagram, what is that "optional tach Port", wire colors are Blk, Red and Yellow? Thank again, I'll keep all posted on what I find.

Could be as simple as cleaning your cables at the battery. Mine were doing that, and thats all it took.

Well I pulled the tank, unplugged, cleaned and reconnected every single wire, checked continuity from the yellow wire at the TACH to yellow under the tank, between the black and the negative battery cable, all was good. Yellow signal wire at the TACH plug to ground while wiggling all wires, had no continuity as it shouldn't have. All wires look new, all connections are tight and clean...battery is new Braile, very tight connections, re-crimped all eye connectors at battery....still the same issue, it bugs the shit out of me when something doesn't work right. The only two things that are left is the crank sensor and the ING Mod. Open to any suggestions please.....Thanks in advance.
