Interesting Fiber. How do we know by looking at the oil container? What is Mobil 1 v-twin 20/50? I had no idea that there are these classes of oil. Thanks.

Is that a class 4 oil?
Yes, it's their top of the line race oil. Similar to their V-twin oil without the additives required for a wet clutch. Since the clutch is not shared with the engine oil on these engines I just use the race version.

That is some good oil that Amsoil runs good. I put it in my 07 K-9 and it likey!!!. Smooth running, top end sounds like a good Singer sewing machine now and it runs much cooler. I have not had any issues with the Amsoil now with over 5K miles.  :2thumbs:

My manual reads as follows:
"We DO NOT recommend synthetic oil".
I am doing a 2500 oil change this week, was ready to go syn, but this stopped me. What gives? is there a difference between a 2002 107 and later years?

Syn, yes

S&S sells an oil change kit for their engines and it includes Mobil 1 synthetic 20W50 and an S&S filter. FYI

First Oil Change

OK then! To syn or not to syn. That is the question. But I am goin to syn tonight. Thanks for pushing the needle over to syn, Dawgboy!
So, I did the 2500 mile oil change last night. I used synthetic oil which I am happy about. I took 15 minutes to figure out how to get the tube unhooked (I thought I had to take off the bolt that held it down, until a news flash from on high registered and I figured out it was just a clip.) Onward: I decided to drain the oil into an empty paint can. Cool. But... little did I know the paint can had a hole in it. Now, I have a perfectly good, and large, stain on my garage floor. How can I kick ass in court, and then get my ass kicked in my own garage doing the most basic service? I really respect guys who can wrench, and that is why I will keep trying and working on the Dog, and making messes and f#$%#g up left and right. But I guess that is how we learn. (I think I need the Betty Crocker Motorcycle Cookbook. But I have the next best thing: this Forum!) Next time I won't drown my garage floor in oil. Next time! And, of course, without the Forum and Gas's blow by blow instructions, I would have taken three times longer and no doubt created all kinds of problems. My Mastiff is happy; I am happy, and the OL hasn't seen the garage floor yet.... LOL

Kitty litter, cheap and fast absorbent. Plus there are all kinds of concrete washes out there to remove oil stains. Least yours had a hole in it, mine had one large one on top to drain into and what do I do kick the ever living crap out of my toe and make a huge mess.

Most garage floor are smooth finish. A little mineral spirits and a rag will get it up.

Brake or carb cleaner will get that oil spot up. Last choice... WD40 will also get it up.... spray and wipe with rag.

Did you see this ED?

Rutro, I use 2 1/2 quarts of Mobil 1 20 -50w V-twin oil and 1/2 quart lucas oil supplement in mine. I change it every 2500 miles like clockwork. I'v got 13,000 on mine after 1 year. I run mine a lot obviously. I waited till I hit 3000 miles because the techs at BDM told me to give the rings a good chance to seat and break in before switching over to synth. I did and my engine runs 'Golden" doesn't get hot and hardly any valve train noise especially since I started using the Lucas oil Supplement. I only use S&S oil filters. I use HD shockproof in my tranny and RedLine MTL in my primary. Hope this gives you a tiny amount of insight.
Ed look at this What about Additives?

Ron I have seen this. I sent it to the Lucas people. Haven't heard back from them yet BUT I was at the NHRA Nationals 2 weeks ago and I asked the Lucas people directly about that. They told me, first... if the Lucas additives were in any way harmful to engines would all these NHRA and NASCAR teams be actually using the products as many of the actual pit crews told me they were. Those are high extreme horsepower engines with very close tolerances and almost every team there was running Lucas in there engines and transmissions. Not to exclude the lucas Top fuel cars and pro stock cars and Pro Stock Motorcycles which obviously use the oils and supplements in their S&S engines. So, I have faith in them. Also if you watch this demo it's about how gears are reacting to being spun and engaged with oils and Lucas supplements. Are there any gears in the bottom of our engines? As far as I know there are only bearings and a crankshaft. Also our cranks and bearings are not lying in a pool of oil but are being splashed by the oil if I have that correct. I could definitely be wrong but I think that's right. At any rate untill I see some evidence of discoloration when I drain my oil, or some other harmful effect from using Lucas then I will continue to trust this product. Every man needs to have his own take on this but that's mine
