I also got mine. I called Coast Choppers to schedule and found out they are closing shop in El Cajon and moving up to San Marcos. I will have to wait until they reopen in 4-5 weeks.

SIICK!!!
I got my letter yesterday.......my bike is already at the dealer....so Doc (the tech at FT) said they were going to take care of it....

I got mine today also---the way I understand it from my dealer, it's the 4 bolts that mount the strut to the frame.:flag:
I thought it was the bolts that mount the fender to the strut because I received my letter this week and it said "replace the bolts & washers" and the four botls that mount my struts to the frame don't have washers. Does anyone know the final BD solution to the voltage regulator recall? There were so many different solutions in the thread and it seemed like the every dealer was doing something different. I have two recall items now stacked up and since my dealer is no longer in existence I have been waiting closer to the riding season to get them taken care of just in case there's more to come.

These are the 4 bolts. They mount the strut to the frame. The washer on the left with the close ridges faces the strut. The right washer is just the other side of the left washer. 50 ft. lbs. torque with red loctite is what I was told. Hope this helps in some way.

I have lost or snapped about 6 bolts and at least three times the rear left broke off if I red locktight that how am I gonna get the piece out without breaking the easyout. I think that the bolts were designed undersized

four small bolts hold that whole fender assembly on then put your ol on top of it thats alot of weight bouncing on 4 small bolts:rant:

Big Ron, thanks for clarifying this up. Did BD send you this replacement kit and where did you get the release to sign to get them to let you install the bolts yourself? If I can avoid having to haul my bike 2 hrs to the BD dealer I will do it

I heard this a couple weeks ago. Wonder if the car dealer gave up on the company.
Also, wonder where they will land in San Marcos. I lived close by in Vista off 78 when I lived down there.

Keep us up to date,
Ray

How many miles do you have on your bike? Do you have a rider a lot?
I haven't had any problems yet at about 2800 miles
Is it possible to just replace them ourselves with a better hardened bolt?

Wow, those are not the nice chrome bolts I have on mine right now.
Guess if mine were going to fail they would have by now with all the miles and amount of baggage I carry on the back!!!!

Yesterday I went to my local bolt guy that carrys chrome bolts.I replaced my motor mount bolts with longer ones smooth sides as ray suggested. Then I ask local bolt guy to tell what grade of bolt he sold me.From the markings on the new and old bolt they were the same (better than a grade eight). Now i have a daytec frame so IM not sure about your other frames here.I removed the allen headed bolts I found the rear or lower bolt shorter than the front.Previous post on the udate bolts look same lenght to me.I installed a longer bolt (bolt thread just barely sticks out the frame away from the swing arm.Two drops of blue loctite call it good. Now look at your bolt and check how long they are.Remember I have the daytec frame. To snap a bolt like this its like hoat said its to loose in the bore. 05chop

05... I believe mine are the same way. If you look at the holes on the frame. The front hole is shallower than the rear where as the rear has tons of clearance. I believe that is the reason.

I agree with Hoat, even though I haven't busted one yet, the problem is those bolts should probably be 1/2" not 3/8".

That all being said, I'm with Ray on this... those aren't chrome! F that! My dealer told me yesterday he'd have some sets real soon, I'll take them but they won't get used. I replaced mine already with some grade 8 chromies which actually makes them a step higher than grade 8. Hell I ever replaced the small bolts from the fender to the strut as well.

not enough time 4 riding
Got my letter on Thursday and called Full House on Friday. I need a Virginia safety inspection also so I will kill two birds with one trip to the dealer.

Hoat, I'm with you on the red loctite I don't believe going that heavy is necessary for the obvious reasons.

I got 10k miles on my one year old bike and I ride it like I stole it. I carry passengers, bags, and whatever else I can.

I have little pices of broken bolts laying around my garage.

I just watch them real close and have some extras in the tool bag

Dealer replaced my strut bolts and new side covers. I'm disappointed the bolts are zinc plated and not chrome.
