strange issue

I start bike....it runs...pops....then everything cuts out. Electric and all. I turn off..then start again..but bike runs for a min then cuts out again. I noticed the battery is fallibg apart. Could that be a problem? Take a look at the pic ...

What pic? If the battery is falling apart I wouldn't even try to start, just go get a new one.

i dont know why the bike is acting up....but here is the pic of my battery. not sure if this has something to do with it? Tomikio batteries (TR Permformace) are shitty batteries. They have high CCAs ...but the battery terminal is coming apart..as you can see from the pic, and this battery has not given me good performance. This thing was worse than my Deca. Next time i will try a Braille. I m still not sure if this is causing the symtoms im experiencing.

Looks like it should have the 1/8 inch spacer before the terminals to space them out from the battery. Almost looks like it was over tightened to pull the terminal in and it cracked the battery lug. The last 2 batteries I bought came with spacers to use if you needed them.

Is that a crack going horizontal with that post being pulled from the lead post and has a black bubble out of that area?

1. I have a loose battery strap that helped it along.
2. I did not prep my battery posts/eyelets/bolts/nuts with dielectric grease.
3. I better BW up my suggestion plus one.

Bad batteries do all kinds of crazy stuff to our bikes. My last battery was getting weak and the bike was running poorly until I put a new battery in. Made a world of difference.

If it doesn't LOOK RIGHT then it usually isn't...It could be a problem but I would give the battery a FULL charge and then try it again.

The battery voltage should be about 12.8 volts minumum if battery is in GOOD condition.

Poor battery condition allows the voltage to drop low enough when starting and when the starter stops running the battery doesn't have enough sufficient recovery voltage to run the electronics and coil.

A battery post was torn away, the bike starts but that vibration shows it is junk once it kills the current. That's one scenario. How could I find out?

I want to start the bike again, but this time, push the post in with a big screwdriver and see if the bike stays running. If not, you would assume it's not the battery. But if you pull the screwdriver off and rev the engine, didn't that point to a broken battery post, no lights, etc. occurs?

Good eye JJ. Ya, the wires are pulling on the case and the post. That spacer should have been in the back of the terminals to space them out. That battery is toast..

tomioka racing has agreed to provide me a new battery,..since i am still in the 2 year warranty period. How do i use the spacers? Does the red plastic part get used too? or just the gold rings

Plastic isn't a good conductor. the battery comes with a one page instruction sheet showing the placement of the brass washers. If not, put the bolt thru the terminals and stick the brass washer on last. make sure it flits flat on the battery post and tighten it up.

X2, Also make sure the bolts are long enough for good engagement to the post, too short and you could strip the nut in the battery post when using the spacers.

turned out the ignition switch was shorting out, and shutting the bike down. I would wiggle the ignition and the bike would stop and start. I am currently waiting on a new custom chrome ignition.
