Ok, so I'm at work and I'm in an artistic mood so I made a drawing just for you. This is how you test for spark. It is IMPERATIVE that the threads of the spark plug be GROUNDED on some metal part of your bike. This means that with the ignition "ON", have a helper press "RUN" on the handlebars, and hold "START" while you hold the threads of the plug against the engine fins. If the plug is not grounded, it will not spark. Once again, if you leave the plug holes open, watch your face because lots of air will come blasting out while you do this, or use a spare plug and leave the originals in like Gas said. Watch closely, the spark can be hard to see if its bright, turning the lights down will help.
If you really have no spark, check to make sure you have 12v at the coil when run is pressed. If you do, it could be a bad coil. If you don't, the next thing I would try is open the timing cover and make sure you have 12v to the timing pickup, when the igniition is on and the run button is pressed. If you don't, you can check your EHC, towards the left side you will have a little light that comes on when you press the "run" button. If you do have 12v at the timing pickup, chances are it's fried. I've burned 2 since I had my bike. Once all those things are checked and verified, I'd start looking at the EHC.
