Starter

Chopper K-9

Can any one PLEASE!!!help me??? My starter will click the soleniond but the starter will not spin. Batter is good. I took off the soleniod cover and pushed the plunger and it turned the motor just fine. Cleaned the contacts, Cleaned it with electrical cleaner and put it back together and it does the same thing. PS It has been a (((LONG))) Gray winter, And now the sun is out in Utah and I would like to ride. THANKS!!!.

This used to continually happen to me...I went ahead and ordered one of these and put it on the starter just in case it ever happened again...I think I called them and they helped me figure out which one to get for my starter,,,,

Try this from Raywood.

If all else fails, here's a friend of mine who was a tech at Timpanogas Harley until they sold it to Nu-Skin
He does fantastic engine technical work too.

I had a similar problem, the copper contact ring on the plunger and the contacts had a melt down. I have a slam switch on my starter I had to use to start the bike for awhile when the start button just caused a click. Eventually the slam didn't work either. Not sure what caused the meltdown. New starter fixed it and it has been fine for the past two years.

Most likely a bad solenoid but have you verified 12v from the thin green wire on the starter when you hit START? The clicking could be your compression releases.

starter solenoid

I inherited a 1999 Vintage Sport with no manual. There is no dealer near me.

The slam switch works, but the ignition switch doesn't.

I have been told it needs a new solenoid. Does anyone know how to tell what solenoid to buy?

Thanks

Look at the end and the style will tell you the wattage
