Went to start my bike after getting gas and no dice. Wouldnt turn over and start. it would turn the starter very slowly and of course no ignition. I was thinking the battery. However their was smoke comming off of the positive wire running to the starter.
I am lost on this one

Sounds like you might have a loose wire. Did you check at the starter or battery? A weak battery will cause this also... Just saying

Got an update,my mechanic took it apart, cleaned it all up.He said their was alot of nasty smelling gunk in it. He said it looked like at one time some primary fluid got it their.
Hw said the o ring is good and not leaking now.
Also my battery might be going bad. He's going to charge it all night and see what happens. I'm pretty sure i wore it down quite a bit trying to start it.
ALso he put some pipes on it. So i will be posting some pictures when i get the chopper back

Sounds like your starter jackshaft seal is leaking. I have been through this a couple of times. Keep your eye on the bottom of the starter and watch for oil drops. If this happens then oil is running down you starter jackshaft from the primary. My 05 did not have the vent on the inside of the primary and used the inspection cover vent system that did not work very well. I installed a vent like on the newer primarys and bought a Accumax starter from a guy on eBay, $239, with a one year warranty. It's supposed to have a better seal and it has a groove cut at the mount to allow better drainage of oil out of the starter drive. Hope this helps!

Another update, Mechanic tried to rebuild the starter but it wouldnt hold so hes putting a new one in it.
Did get rid of the factory pipes and got some pretty mean pipes on it now.

Well the problem continues. Does anyone know what starter will be a direct repalcement for this? My mechanic can't find one. All of his vendors don't have a clue.
I called Baker and they were clueless. I was told that they only made the starter gear itself. The rest was outsourced.
Pretty confusing since all over the Baker website the brag about their new starter and primary design.

Well i guess my starter will be done tommorrow. I dropped it off to the guys who rebuild all of our starters for the trucking company i work for.We have 16,000 trucks on the road, they repair alot of ours,so i guess they are good.
They said they can rebuild any starter and build most of the parts in house that they cannot get or don't make anymore. I guess if they can repair our semi starters they can rebuild this.
