I'd never chrome any of it billet can be sanded , filed and polished to mirror finish if scratched pitted or damaged, it's easy to keep maintained once it's polished up. If it's just fine scratches 2000-3000 grit paper should do the trick but def finish with 3000 then compound and final polish up with billet polish to a mirror finish

Which compound? I think my issue is I keep going at it with a finish type polish like a White Diamond, Wizards, the purple stuff...flitz....i have a cabinet full of them.

I use a one step great on paint chrome and aluminum it's 3m marine and finishing compound leaves a swirl free highly polished scratch free surface it can be found on amazon can be used with machine or by hand like on motor fins

That one?? Use it on aluminum just like mothers etc? So first sand up to 3000, then the 3m compound then the mother's billet? What do you use for polishing from an application standpoint? I had cutup some grout sponges into little squares and have been using those with the finishing polishes and they're easier to handle than a towel. I then use a micro towel to clean the polish off.

This was polished in between the fins all the way to the bottom .no cast at all smooth as a bady but

That's the stuff! Use it after sanding then follow with billet, what are you applying the billet with? Use cotton for both application and removal the microfiber with make billet look spyder webbed try billet and cotton first before sanding etc

Ah nice tip! Yeah I've been using microfiber for everything. Old t-shirts do the trick?

Here are a couple of pics of the other side of the motor. Over cast here in NWA, but you can see the reflection in the block.

However I think we are comparing diamonds to diamonds. Both Mike, and Kevin get exellent results! Hats off to both. I know I am super pleased with the current shine on my parts compared to what they were. If I had Kevins bike I would be happy as well. Very nice work both ways!! Top knotch stuff. Both are way beyond what the average guy with a rag and a can of mothers can do. Hats off to both! But one bike we are forgetting her is RC18's his Ridgeback would blind you on and average day. Take it to a pro or spend countless hours polishing it both are hard work for maximum results. I really think Ryan polishes his bike while riding it.

Yes for sure and another trick is blue rubber gloves apply the billet on hand controls and tight areas with fingers and polish off with cotton t shirt you'll be amazed

Good note. Do you have a how-to thread somewhere? If not, I'm sure it'd be a much appreciated topic! "The KING of polishing's trick to being able to shave in your billet!"

I agree I think yours looks great , perfect actually , different processes same results, when I said popsicle sticks I wasn't serious I forget what the plastic things I use are called hell I've used dent rods to get into tight areas , I am anxious to see your bike all back together I know you been trying to get it the way you want it for a while now

Yes I have. Ive used popsicle stick to clean the gunk out of crevaces before. No shame in using what works!! You just can press on em real hard!

On a serious note dent dude I would like to send u a bottle of the hand polish that I make myself. If I knew how to get it to you .I would for sure like to hear your opinion on how it works compared to others.
