sporadic issue with shifting in to second gear

I have been having a small sporadic issue with shifting in to second gear. It's like every once in a while when up shifting from 1st it goes in to netural instead of second. I know I'm lifting my foot hard enough to get it to go in to second. That is the only gear there is an issue with. If I double clutch it, then it goes in to second ok. Like I said though, it doesn't happen except every once in a while.

Also very rarely it will drop back down from 3rd to second on a hard acceleration. Is it possible that the shifter pawl located on the tranny needs to be adjusted? I'm looking for suggestions here or anyone else that may have this issue occur.

worry not Scuba, it's a small issue. Just a quirk that has developed since I had the exhaust and carb work done. Maybe I was getting a bit carried away with the new found power? Don't think so. Just looking to see if anyone else has had this incident. We will be riding on Ocean highway very soon Bro. I can't wait either.

Damn..I wish I had a problem with it being to easy to go into neutral! I can't ever get it into neutral.
Try readjusting clutch...
Big Blue ...check linkage for binding ..I read somewhere hear about the joints not being very good on some bikes ? I saw where your linkage was a little different then mine ...might not mean anything..but on the Harley one time the linkage dryed out and it started shifting bad I thought it was the tranny but turned out it was sticking . worth a look .

I had the same issue when I first got mine. Had the clutch properly adjusted and that never happened again. You need about 1/8th of an inch freeplay in the lever.

Scuba, I'm gonna check those hiem joints. Yes they did stick early on so maybe they have dried out some.
Thanks guys , I appreciate all the advice.:2thumbs:

:hi: also, besides lubing the hiem joints, make sure they are parallel to each other for less resistance. shouldn't be out more than about 5 degrees. :2thumbs:

What would be the ideal lube to use?

Big O , I use a combination of CRC556/Molybendulym oil and anti-seize compound. First I clean the joints and then wet them down with CRC 556. Then I brush on the anti-seize as I rotate the center ball in all directions. The wet CRC helps the anti-seize get down in to the seat surface area and they become very well lubed. The anti-seize holds up against the heat very well. The final step before reassembling the shift rod back on to the bike is to coat the ball again with a liquid molybendulym lubricant. That makes them very slick in the socket. I didn't need to do it again untill today and the last time I lubed them was 9500 miles ago.
