the back light in my speedometer will not dim or brighten i think it is in Dim mode

Yeah, the little sensor at 8:30 on your speedo cover is the sensor just like in your newer vehicles. Make sure it's clear and not filled with wax or polish.

By the way if you watch my vid on my Run 21 ride you will see as I ride through the trees that the speedo is changing often due to the sensor.

Yes this is most likely the problem,, take a Q-tip and clean it out, should be good to go.

no not it the motor dos not have to be running dos it

motor does not have to be running for the photo sensor to operate, just the power has to be on.

That sensor is in the tach ring not the speedo so if the speedo is working correctly then great. You may have to pull it apart and make sure the tach ring is clean and check all the connection. Anyother parts of the tach ring not work?

Great instructions in the service manual. It's easy, two bolts under the bucket then remove the wires and remove the third screw. Many threads here on this subject!

All you need is a hammer and two screw drivers. Little duct tape for sealer.
