SKIP FIRE AGAIN

Energy One
It put me on the side of the road again!!! Going to take it to a shop on monday. Has anybody just tried to just unplug that damm heat sensor. If not what do you think the shop can do. It's always hot year round where i live. Thanks for any help. Murf

If you can't get that fixed properly. I would suggest finding out how many ohms of resistance it takes in that circuit to make the bike think all is well, and put a resistor in place of the sensor. Do you have an infrared temp gun? If so take it with you on a ride, and take some measurements if it shuts down again just to make sure something isn't actually getting too hot.

Thanks i do not have a infrare gun. I'm sure i'm not the only bike in south florida that is having this problem with the map, i'm not a computer wiz but you would think you could trick the map thinking the temp is cooler. I can't ride for longer than 25 miles if the temp is 85 deg or higher. The bike came from up north so I think it is just a re-mapping problem. I hope. So far I installed a new heat sensor and changed the oil to 60w. Now I guess it's shop time. I will go out and buy a infrare gun. Thanks

Before you installed the head temp sensor did you ohm it to see if it read the ambient temperature of where you were at? It appears it is working if you can ride it for a while. Sometimes you can short them tightening them down or the wires can rub on the fins shorting them especially if you have diamond cut heads like mine. I would guess in the program they could change the degrees of when it goes into each misfire stage but they were put there to protect the motor. Perhaps your bike is running very lean causing heat related issues. I would double check the intake bolts for tightness and so on.
I am attaching a excel spreadsheet to this thread that will tell you what the temp gauge should read in ohms at each temperature. All you have to do is read the 2 wires. The temperature column is in Celsius so you have to convert it to Fahrenheit. I use a program called convert which is a free download.
At 85 degrees you should read 3027.81 ohm to verify your sensor. That would be 29.16 Celsius.
Whatever ohm you read find it on the sheet, just look at the next column for the temperature and convert it to see what you have.

I highly doubt it's a mapping problem....misfire is an effect of over temp shutdown or other failure.

Neil,

Is the temp sensor an HD part or a S&S proprietary part only available through them?
Is the spreadsheet accurate for the 2007 EFI systems?

Working on a 4000 RPM misfire problem on Bro2's 07 Bulldog as well. Very consistent when creeping up on 4k RPM.
The S&S ProTuneII seems to be monitoring the temp okay when low startup temp range.
Will investigate your checks this winter when we go through his bike.

Could be the S&S EFI module needs to be reflashed but can't find much help or knowledge to get it done.
It's like it reverted back to the engine BREAK-IN process.

Wish I could get ahold of the EFI unlock access software!

Yes it is accurate for your 2007 Bulldog.
I have sent you a email with a lot more technical information to answer your questions in a spreadsheet and documents.
The word file covers the sensor make up.

Good info Neil thanks for posting it.

I wonder if there is something messed up in the box file loaded into the ECM?

Wish I could get ahold of the EFI unlock access software!
As far as I know only S&S would have that ability. Believe me I tried and ended up replacing the VFI module.

That's what I'm thinking. It may have reverted back to the break-in sequence programming while reconnecting the battery or something. Not much help available to get it fixed....nobody wants to claim ownership of the damn thing.

Disconnect the heat sensor and connect in a 1k ohm resistor across the bike harness connections.

Update!! Bike in shop, It will run for 16 miles ok and then it will go into skipfire etc. Everytime. So far the numbers have been sent to s & s before skipfire and when its in skipfire, just on standby. So far we have no idea why its doing this. I will keep you guys updated on progress. Thanks murf

maybe remember for future both S&S and baker are very helpful, you can call direct. chefchef has a 2009 wolf and S&S sent him the program so he can hooked up with laptop and work on bike (no charge)

We are working with s&s, we have the data when it goes into skip, before and after. I hope to find out something on monday.

Still at shop but getting good stuff, s & s is updating software etc. I also found out why my bike was sold with only 2000 miles. The old owner traded the bike in with this problem and of course did not tell anybody, it runs good untill the 15th mile mark. I hope to get it back before the weekend if they complete the work. I hope they get this problem figured out. P.S. to the old owner. KISSS MY ASSSS!!! You four wheel chump!!!!

Still in shop!!!! 1 month, got the bike running cooler but it still misfires, this has been a real problem. S&S does not know what is going on, so I have been riding the bike on test rides for weeks with new data with no fix. I think it must be a bad computer etc. The bike starts to misfire but the computer says it's ok. Help

I get my bike back today with a new ecm from s&s, they are stepping up to the plate. I hope this wasssssss the problem. It's been 43 days in shop!!

Are you getting the programmable one? The original one is locked. The programmable give you way more power and torque in particular if you put any moods on the bike as cam pipe etc.

Just came back from ride. BAD. NO GOOD AGAIN the bike starts to misfire at the 8th mile mark like clock work. I got big problems, mec will call s & s on monday. When bike cools down it will run again, but both the computer and we put a gun and it tell us the motor is not over heating. We just don't know!!!

What is the engine temperaure reading on the Pro Tune software when it starts the skip fire? (S&S Tuning software connected to the ECU through a computer?) I'm assuming you already replaced the ETS as well..

I'm also wondering if they put the correct fuel pump in? Did you follow the sensor reset procedure after connecting the battery up again?

Did the shop even test drive it?
