Low Down Chop Shop
This isn't for all bikes. From what I hear the only bikes that have these sidecover pins from the factory are the 2005+ Bulldog & Mastiff, 2006+ Chopper & K-9. All other do not have them and all Ridgebacks never had them.
So, for these bikes to remove the side covers there are a total of 6 bolts, 4 up top and 2 tight underneath. These pins eliminate the bolts on the under side.
Here are the parts you need from your BDM dealer:
You need to remove your side covers (here one is removed) and this is the stock bracket with the speed nuts on it:
You need to rebend the bracket up the thickness of the new nuts that you bought to allow clearance for them like this:
Screw the nut on the stainless stud and screw it into the speed nut and tighten it down. I put a touch of blue locktight on mine for reasons known. It should look like this now:
Do both sides and Install the rubber grommets in the covers. You'll now find you have to spend about 1/2 hour loosening and readjusting the placement of the speednut slightly so that the covers line up perfectly on the bottom. Here is what the both covers look like installed:
Now all you have to do to remove the covers is take out the top four bolts and pull the cover DOWN off the pins instead of trying to get them out with a open end wrench up under there.
