Sick Dogs

I'm looking for some objective input. I'm looking into joining the Big Dog family and I have a few bikes i'm looking into. I talked with a mechanic that I used to take my Harley to and who I trust. He warned me that Big Dogs are plagued with electrical and chassis problems. He compared it to owning a boat where you have to sink money into it every time you take it out. Although I am not scared off, I do have more concerns now about throwing down for a Big Dog now.

What's your experience, opinion, and input on this?

That is not true any thing has problems. That's like saying a Harley will never break down IMHO.

Take everything anybody tells you with a grain of salt.
Yes BD has had its share of problems but so do all the other manufactures.
Just be cautious when you make your purchase.
Many have purchased their bikes and put thousands off miles on them with no issues.

YOu only live once. I say buy the dog and if you have problems then so be it. Like Zachusmc said "anything has problems".
The good thing is that there is a ton of information on this forum and if you do run into a problem you can likely find a solution on here.

I have an 09 K9 and have been problem free. No issues at all. I don't have a ton of miles on it { about 6K } but when I do ride it I ride it hard. Bike starts every time and runs great.Don't hesitate buy the dog of choice and enjoy.

Has my Big Dog had problems? Yes, lots of them, but to be honest I forget about everyone of them when I'm out for a ride on the bike. Seriously, I can't express in words how much I enjoy riding my chopper. Everything has problems, some are just worth it. I love my harley's, but nothing compares to the smile I get on my face every time I throw my leg over and ride. To me, it's worth every bit of trouble I've had with it. All bikes can have problems. I've had harley's that are very far from problem free. I've also had ones like my fatboy that I've just done regular maintenance on and had no problems.

Treat the dog well, and it will typically treat you well back. Beat on it too much and be prepared for it to bite back.

05 Pit with fair share of electrical opportunities. 5 mins of riding that baby is easily worth a week of downtime. Just don't ask me during that particular week... Seriously though, mine's been good to me.

It's not a Honda though so just don't go into it expecting Honda reliability.

Thanks for the Honda offer but I think i'll pass on the Goldwing for now. I'm planning on selling the Harley for the BD but I wanted to get a feel for BD from owners. Thanks all for your input.

Just my opinion, get the ride that makes YOU happy. Personally I've never had a better bike then my Pitbull. I've had a few issues but with all the knowledge here I've kept it running strong. Go for it....you won't regret it.

Even if the bike does have electrical problems, the wire plus is a relatively cheap and easy fix. I dont see ppl post many problems after that. So IF you have to fix that glitch, you'll still have one of the nicest bikes on the road imo.

How many has he worked on? Riden? Or even seen in person?? Most of the electrical issues result from miss diagnosis.

07 Bulldog here....Love every friggin minute on it :D...owned FLH, softails, and never rode a bike like the dog. Got used to the 300 real EZ, and the bike just rides great. Little story, highway doing 75 and changed lanes and caught a basket ball size pothole...lovely Ohio...and thought I was gone. The front wheel danced, thought the tire blew, but just held on, kept her straight and rode on. Not enough time to enjoy, but hopefully that's changing. Knock on something....NO PROBLEMS at all. :2thumbs:

Everything everyone has said is true, I've had mine about 6 months and have had a few problems but nothing too bad. But when you get on it and ride, its so worth it.. EVERYONE checks it out and complements the bike, EVERYTIME out. And its different than any bike I've ever had, no comparison at all. Kinda like climbing on a hot chick everyone envy's you hahaha.

For the money you can't get a more badass lookin bike. They are hot rods and like any hot rod you have to expect to work on them a little. The payback is worth it. I considered getting a night train or a rocker but I would have spent twice as much money trying to make it look like my bike already looked the day I bought it. You won't regret it.
