Shipping an engine...

Well i finished pulling the motor out and its about to head to Hillside. Before i start on building a crate i figured id ask you guys that have shipped one before how you did it to make it there safe and sound. Any advice ?

yea...take it yourself...shipping companys suck. all ive shipped is cylinders and heads and i used an ice chest packed with bubble wrap and newspaper...good luck on whole engine...

not done it before, but i would say to bolt it to some lengths of 2x4 longer than the overall length of the motor from front cylinder to back cylinder and then build a plywood box around that. don't skimp, and then fill it with sheets of styrofoam. make one side completely removable and use screws instead of nails

What are you having done?

Incorporate your top motor mount into the crate

This is almost exactly what I did to ship my GS1395 (yeah I know, but it quenches my need for speed) motor to Arizona, and it was returned the same way and is in excellent condition. I used bolts everywhere and hinges on the sides so they will drop down for easy access to the engine bolts that secured the motor to the bottom of crate.

Thanks for the advice guys. Bought some 2x4s and some plywood. I talked to scott and asked if 140hp/tq is possible. The recipe he recommended will be a 9F cam with headwork of course. Gonna cheat a lil with high compression and some good fuel.........:D
