shift linkage help!

I researched and read every post on how to lube heim joints and check for allignment and still a little confused about what to do. I read that the shift linkage needs to be straight from front to back?? I have the BDM extended forward controls and when you look down the side of the bike on the primary side, the front heim joint is future out towards the right than the heim joint connected to the transmission arm. The front heim joint has a spacer on the bolt but its not long enough and neither is the bolt to allign the shift linkage straight. My bike has 6k miles on it and the shifting seems to stick and I have a hell of a time down shifting but going up in gears is fine. Can this allignment be corrected or does this seem to be the norm?

On my 2007 K-9 with my extended forward controls they sent me a short spacer to put in the front so that when you shift it wouldn't hit the frame but with that spacer it wouldn't downshift, so i bought longer bolt and used my stock longer spacer and it doesn't hit the frame and that solved my shifting problem

I know this is a diffrent subject but does anyone know where or if even you can get a diffrent style shift linkage for these bikes? I understand the lengths are probably diffrent by the year model i cant find one if my life depended on it...:bang:

i think part of what they are talking about as far as being straight refers to the heim joints themselves. make sure the joints are at true vertical so they don't bind against each other as they go through twisting motion when shifting. just being out a little could cause a problem.
