Selling my 2007 K9...needs work

OK, I am done with my current 2007 K9!!!

Will sell "as is" for about $4500.

When I say "As is", it currently has these issues:
- EHC is only partially functioning, as it does not power the speedometer
- Right side battery cover is gone
- Needs front tire (maybe rear too)

History of the bike is as follows:
- Purchased the bike used a few years ago from out if state. Went thru California DMV hell to finally get it registered
- Starter had issues due to ring gear being loose and various seals were leaking. 5 grand later I got all that replaced, along with upgraded starter
- Clutch cable has been replaced twice
- LED headlight installed. "Beauty" ring for the headlight is not so beautiful anymore due to frustration in removing it.

Maybe I'll have a change of heart once I cool down, but I just got done messing with it and am currently fuming over the utterly stupid design of this thing! Just truly sick and tired of it all!

I just put in the new EHC which is the Electroniks.de one, and yeah, it fried, having smoked a few days ago. Got it from wild steed worx, but see that they only honor the warranty if the entire charging system has been upgraded. Of course I didn't do that, as why the fuck wouldn't the stock charging system be OK? Are you telling me that fucking Big Dog cannot make a trustworthy charging system? WTF?!??!!?

Anyways, yeah, I'm still fuming, and if someone were to say "here's 4500 bucks, I'll take it 'as-is'", then by golly, IT'S YOURS!!!

Thanks! That thought had actually crossed my mind.
Perhaps I’ll get the bike repaired and sell it for something closer to what it’s worth.

So frustrating that such a beautiful bike has to be ruined by the poor engineering of Big Dog.

So did you do the work installing the new EHC from Curtis? Do you have an inline fuse between your VR & your battery? Do you an inline fuse between your new EHC & battery? If you have those two inline fuses it shouldn’t matter at all about your charging system. If either has a surge it should blow the fuse before any damage takes place. Also ONLY the speedo is not functioning correctly? Everything else works fine? I’m just trying understand what actually happened. I sure hope you can get it fixed and keep your amazing K-9. Thats a beautiful bike. I do remember your other posts about getting it registered in California.

Thank you for the input! I will need to check on the fuse situation. I would imagine the stock bike would have those fuses, correct? Guess there's always a chance the previous owner removed them.

I know it has that main circuit breaker as I just replaced that not too long ago due to one of the terminals being loose.

Before this latest failure, only the speedometer and odometer stopped working. The tachometer still worked fine, as did all the other lights on the speedometer, such as the neutral indicator, turn signals, and headlight lo/hi beam indicator.

Then several months ago, my voltage regulator fried, going up in smoke, and then of course the bike would not start. Apparently that destroyed something within the EHC as the headlight would not work, with only about 4 volts coming out of the EHC to the headlight instead of the expected 12 volts.
That "original" EHC was the Electroniks.de one. I replaced it with a new Electroniks.de one , and the headlight then worked, but still no speedo or odometer.

The latest issue was when I noticed something smoking right after starting the bike, and the smoke appeared to be coming from underneath the battery box. After that, the speedo was totally dead, as in "no more tachometer". The front running lights also do not light up, though the turn signals and brake lights are still OK, along with the headlight.

Anyways, bottom line is that I KNOW the Electroniks.de EHC is the cause of the tach not working as hooking up the original Electroniks.de EHC has the tach working OK.

Oh, you asked if I got the EHC from Curtis. Is he from Wild Steed Worx? This is where I bought:

No they didn’t come stock with the fuses and need to be added if you don’t have them. I would think that you did something wrong possibly when installing the new ECH and fried it. Hence the smoke cloud when you started it. The axle ECH has made our bikes reliable IMO. Hope you get it worked out. Although I would buy it at that price quick , I would encourage you to see it through. If you still don’t want it then you can sell it for a decent price. Good luck

So as Snuffy stated…no BigDog didn’t actually have any inline fuse between the VR & battery. They did have the circuit breaker but that could be reset by pushing a button and not actually fixing what caused it to pop. On your new EHC it should have had a inline fuse built into it. That line needs to be connected to the battery directly not to the circuit breaker that you have inline between the VR & battery. You said you smoked your VR so you would have needed to replace it I assume? Yes Curtis is Wildsteedworx. Bigdogpartskingpin carries an inline fuse setup that eliminates the circuit breaker. That definitely needs be replaced. Unfortunately it sounds like something definitely got cooked in the new EHC. Certainly wish you the best in figuring it all out. I would definitely recommend getting this fuse setup & ditch the circuit breaker.
