OK , picked up a garage queen. 2001 Pitbull w/4600 miles

So far , cleared the "sumped" engine (kept the lower unit from rust ..lol)
then cleaned the SS shorty from its various contamination..
petcock leaks in off position ( tried , but couldn't fix)

lubed all cables , fired it up ....runs no smoke , no knocks .
A few lights to fix , and I think it will survive

first jet in a bike fuel system..

OK , BD was running good .
thought I would ride it on a Patriot Guard mission.
Stopped , filled it up.(first time )
about four miles down the road ..cough-cough...spit spit .
turned around went back to the house , rode my Fatboy to the funeral.

seems like the "vent to the fuel tank was clogged `"
yep , today I found the crossover between the tanks was clogged with
believe it or not ?? with pipe wrap(plumbers tape)...
Gosh didn't know that "IGOR" worked on this bike .

guess the fill up took all the air from the tanks , and the vent didn't let much air back in ...basically "ran out of gas "..
Next ride will be better:flag:

OK , today I took apart the front caliper..
It had a "BN' brake (better than nothing)

pistons stuck ,took a while but got them out ( little air and patience)
cleaned them up and refilled /bled with dot 5 .

found where "IGOR " had wrapped all fittings with plumber tape ,and had lock tighted the caliper screws.
now I can lock the front wheel at 30mph.

on to the the rear another day

Welcome and congrats! Keep an eye on the gas tank liner inside the tank - applies to all early Big Dogs- the liner likes to peel off / not made for our newer ethanol-added gasoline. looks like gray or yellow plastic wrap pieces as it comes off. Ask me how I know.

DP brake pads are the way to go for your PM brakes, very good bite and not dusty. Basically any of the Drag Specialties branded pads are actually DP pads.

BTW love that classic CX500 in your stable. My very first street bike was a KZ550, rode the hell out of it. followed up with a Yamaha RZ500 Kenny Roberts edition - now that was pure insanity, a lightweight V4 2-stroke 500cc GP street bike @110hp... thank God for getting older. don't know how I made it this far sometimes..

thanks for the heads up , as the liner goes away , I assume the tank will still
hold gas ??
I do have a large filter just after the petcock, and the petcock has a screen ..

btw the cx500 only has 28K and is a parts go-getter
( IT never needs any heh) )
