Mine are all accounted for. Have about 100 trees down in our 30 house development. Power out since Monday 2pm. Got an 8 kw Gen wired to the panel. Siphoning gas from our cars. Maybe got 2" of rain so basement is dry. My niece is with us from sea bright. That's a total loss with 2 to 4' of sand everywhere. Got people in union beach recorded 12' water rise! Massive destruction from coastal flooding.

I was down in VA for the weekend, but was planning on driving home Mon night. I heard about the 95 closures so I just stayed down there. I was pretty well prepared, I had 1/4lb of macaroni salad and a gallon of vodka in the fridge. Worst case, I live in a really liberal town where nobody has any guns, so if I needed to I could just go take what I want.

I finally got my power on at 1 PM today. One day I had to stand in line with 5 gallon gas cans for 3 hours only to have to station run out of gas when I was the 4th person in line. A full tanker came 20 minutes later and I filled up. Today they started odd even rationing for cars. Now the people do not have to sleep in their car over night to wait for the gas station to open. I have to come up with a way to store a lot more gas.

Might want to look at getting a generator that runs off natural gas . Lot easier to get a large tank and have it filled, dont have to worry about shelf life of your gas either.

Slightly less efficient in terms of BTU's p/gallon, however when you consider the significantly cheaper price of Natural Gas and the ease of storing It more than makes up for it.

Propane is an option too, just I price keeps going up.

· Gasoline 1 gallon = 125,000 BTUs

· Natural Gas 1 CCF = 100,015 BTUs (CCF=100 cubic feet)

· Propane 1 gallon = 91,700 BTUs

In Isabel we were out of power for for almost two weeks. The only disadvantage of living in the woods. We did pick up a generator about the fourth day. We were forunate in the fact that it was late September and mile weather. With the temps steady dropping, I hope that the people up north don't have to wait as long.

Mike, thank you for helping the east coast out . The power on my street was fixed by a group of guys from Ohio. I saw trucks from Illinois, Tampa, PA and MO. My business partner got his power back yesterday.
On a good note. 10/29 hurricane, the following week a snow storm and yesterday 65 and sunny and I put 100 miles on the mutt. If you do not like the weather in NJ wait a minute.

nope, I have 2 friends up in the north east, both are big Union believers. Both have said," we would rather wait on the union trucks than be rescued by nonunion workers"! I told them both they were fricken NUTTS! :loony:

Hey liferider they might be turning union crews away now also at this point. You flood the area with electrical crews it somtimes creates more problems especially when it comes to safety, all i can say is be patient its gonna take some time. The lineman there are working there asses off 16hrs a day n sometimes more to get the power back on.
