All the spikes I have seen have the K&N type filters. Just clean and oilHave what may be a stupid question but here goes, the bike I just bought has the spike filter, are these reuseable, clean and oil or do you replace the element?

I agree the hose clamps make mine look like a cheap afterthought! I have yet to find a suitable replacement for the clamps????The only thing that 'bugs me' with the S&S set-up is the ugly-ass O-Ring clamp holding the filter on.
Is that clamp at least stainless steel (I hope).
Does anyone know if somebody makes chrome O-Ring clamps that size?
I hear ya' and am hoping somebody, somewhere makes these clamps in chrome - solid or slotted.I agree the hose clamps make mine look like a cheap afterthought! I have yet to find a suitable replacement for the clamps????
You can use a Chrome or Stainless clamp like the ones used to hold exhaust heat wrap in place, but once it's on, it's on. You would have to cut it off everytime you take the filter off.I hear ya' and am hoping somebody, somewhere makes these clamps in chrome - solid or slotted.
I like the looks of this S&S system, otherwise. Will let you know if I find a resource.
I put heat shrink around my clamps but did not shrink it. Threw on a bit of armor all dressing stuff and it blended in nicely with the rubber on the filter. Best cheap alternative I could figure.A piece of heat shrink over the clamp is probably the best option at this time. At least it would camouflage the clamp.
A large black ty wrap may work and may look a little less noticeacble. There again you would have to cut it off to remove the filter. The only thing that 'bugs me' with the S&S set-up is the ugly-ass O-Ring clamp holding the filter on.

Do you mean heat shrink wire wiring? What color did you use?I put heat shrink around my clamps but did not shrink it. Threw on a bit of armor all dressing stuff and it blended in nicely with the rubber on the filter. Best cheap alternative I could figure.
Yes, heat shrink for wiring. I used black. Just happened to have the right size handy and slipped it over the clamp after unscrewing it completely.Do you mean heat shrink wire wiring? What color did you use?
You need the DM-53. That website seems to have a lot of the older models made by D&M some say out of stock, and since D&M says they are not making them anymore doubt they will ever be back in stock :lol. Will the D&M Spike fit on the S&S Supper G (shorty) carb?

I HAVE HAD BOTH. AND IM TELLING YOU ITS A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EM TWO, S&S IS DA SHIT!!!Looks like S&S wins, according to this dyno run.
Can anyone validate or dispute from experience with both styles of intake?
I'm considering this S&S upgrade for my K9 this winter.![]()
THEY ARE BARELY NOTICEABLE!!! DONT WORRY!!!!The only thing that 'bugs me' with the S&S set-up is the ugly-ass O-Ring clamp holding the filter on.
