S&S Compression Release Cap Replacement

i just noticed that my rear compression release cap had a tear in it. I see that you can buy them separately. Anyone know the process to replace just the caps?

Get the KY off the head board, put a finger full around the inside of the new cup and push it in place. May have to use an angled pick to help push it down.

So basically just pull the old up and out and push the new one on? Will it click in or just sit on the valve? The existing seems in there pretty snug, although I haven’t really yanked it.

It's a pain in the ass but it can be done without removing anything. My old one kinda tore out in pieces and to put new one in I used dielectric grease to coat it. Takes patience to get it down far enough, just got to keep working it down. Front one would be easier I assume, I did the rear one

Wouldn’t the ky break down the rubber ?? Lol

So when using KY, take it slow and easy... Don't build up any friction..

Man, you weren’t lyin! Took the rear cap off the soloniod but needed wd40 to get it to release. It seemed pretty slick so I used that to install the new. Took a while to get it to set around but once I did and worked it about 1/2 way down it locked up. Went to the front and grabbed some lube (astroglide) and once it set around the solonoid it basically spun all the way down quickly. Pulled the back one off again and reset with lube and all good! Thank you!

It's tough to try to replace them with the complete rocker box assembly on. That being said, be careful to not push them all the way down tight, as they can possibly keep the compression release valve off its seat, causing a loss of some compression.

I'm pretty sure I've got you beat in the Lazy Person category since most of what I've been doing is reading everything you do. I'm both amazed and tired after!

Honestly, nobody on this forum is lazy if they work on their own bikes.

A little dab silicone will fix a small tear. I have a little slit cut in mine to lube them once in a while then re-silicone them.
