S&S 117" to 124" Pro's and Con's

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone here has considered doing this. What all would be needed? New Flywheels or just rods? New Cylinders and Pistons or could you have your cylinders bored? Most likely new cam, although I am running a 600 lift now. Would the heads stay the same (currently running the larger valves)

Would there be a substantial amount of difference in performance?

Thought I'd ask the question....

New flywheels, pistons and cylinders

Possibly pushrods, pushrod tubes, intake manifold top engine mount.

Basically the engine is taller so you have to look and see what that will affect in your application (frame/tank clearance etc.)

S & S Sells a 124 kit. The Stroke on the 124 is 4.625 vs the 4.375 on the 117. The Bore is the same 4.125 and yields a 10.5 to 1 Compression with 91 CC heads. Why not just buy a 124 and slap it on there.

So you multiply your current RWHP times the extra cubes and that's whay you have. It will make a little more low end torque due to the extra stroke and probably a little less high end hp per cube due to the stroke and piston speed.

I can pop a wheelie on my 117" full dresser so a 117 should do it.

I would look at cams and gearing.

Or you could look at cams, gearing and a 124 kit.

If all you want is to do a wheelie then change your final drive ratio, or loose some weight.

The best buy for the money would be gearing since your bike is a 04 and I assume has the standard left side drive set up. Do that and run out in your 6th gear to check your cruisn speed. Then go in to the motor from there.

I looked at doin a 1 tooth less on the engine primary gear on my 05 and it was going to change my final drive from around 2.95 to 3.15. i was good with that because I rarely use 6th anyway. but with the right side drive I was going to have to ahve a gear made. talked to Baker and they said " not interested"

If you do get a good wheel stand on the ridge back will you sell us the parts after its over? J/k :D
