Ian, why do you have to manually push the comp release down? They should be automatic. And what BBC was correct. 2 twists of the throttle, then start, but never twist the throttle when the starter is endgaged. That's what will screw your starter up. Adding fuel while starting increases compression and is hell on a starter.
i hold it down so i can feel then it fires
let it roll over a couple of times then add gas [vruume]
just put a 320cca battery in from batterys + dam thing realy spins now
then it rolls over a couple of times befor cracking off, lets oil get in the bearings after not running for a week
once warm starting is done normaly
if you twist the throtle before starting the engine, you are still putting fuel in the cyl
