Go to Radio Shack and pick up some solder sucker. Take a hot soldering iron and place it on the solder sucker and then place the solder sucker on the ckt board. Don"t leave it on there too long. You will see when the solder is removed. Then resolder the pins/connector. Get some Permaseal (from Radio Shack) and spray the board down to seal it from moisture. Don't spray any on contacts that are to be used. I would hesitate using a mechanical means to remove the broken part. It may damage the board.
To get the wires out of the board. Just heat the ends with the iron and theyll come out. I only used the tiny drill bit (I held the bit in my hand, not in a drill) to re open the holes as I couldnt get all the solder out. Then I put the new re soldered ends in and re soldered them. On the original part the ends were flush with the board, but I had to have a bit left to help it stick.
No worries. Anythings worth a try on these bikes. To be honest Im not even sure if my problem was fixed by that same repair. But it did work when I put it back together so who knows. The tech at the bike shop who was giving me tips said that some of these bike with internal wiring in the bars, that they can sometimes get either pinched in/or around the controls or can sometimes rub internally causing the short. Something to think about anyways. Hope ya get it sorted.:up:
