i am new to the forum. My name is Rick and in Oklahoma. I was hoping someone could help me out. I have been wanting a ridgeback for years and I think I have finally found the one I want. So my question is, if I have the vin number where do I go to find the history of this bike? The speedo shows very very low miles for a 12 year old bike, it is a 2005. Less than 3000 miles. I would really appreciate somebody's help.

Many, many big dogs have very low miles as they were purchased to simply show off and not ride.:2cents:

I guess I stepped on some toes for not introducing myself correctly. I am 56 years of age, college educated, not that it matters. Have owned 4 bikes, all jap or Harley over the last 30 years. I've been wanting a BDM for the last 16 years. I've rode a k9 and a pit bull. But in my heart I want a ridgeback. This seemed like the place to ask an honest question and get an honest answer. I had no idea there was a proper way to get that answer. I appreciate the answers I have received so far. I guess I will go on about my personal life since it must be necessary to get a response. Yes have been married, proud to say 34 years. 2 sons, one who just graduated from dental school and is currently a doctor and the other just graduated in IT computers. If any other personal info is needed please instruct me. Thank you in advance.

No biggie.
Yea, there are a lot of Dogs out there with low mileage. Found a K9 last summer with 1700 miles on it.

We just like to give you a proper welcome. Even though I'm a little behind on that myself with the new members.

Don't take it to personally Rick, welcome to the family and I hope you get the Ridge you want. Like others have said low mileage dogs are quite common. Give it a good once over and jump in.

SKOGDOG

One of the old ones.
I posted my intro in the wrong area and a kindly moderator moved it for me so I didn't look too bad. You can understand that when someone wants info and advice and where to find parts but doesn't want to be part of our group...well, you know.
Welcome from Kansas, neighbor. I'm in Pittsburg (SE KS).
First thing is to be sure it's an original BDM speedo...many (mine included) poop out due to water and get replaced with a Dakota Digital. If it has been replaced, all bets are off.
I know the old BD dealers had software that could read the info stored in the ECH. I do not know if it srtores miles, but it could print out the minutes/hours that the engine has spent in 100 rpm increments, and how many times the rev limiter has been bumped, etc. I still have a printout somewhere for my K9 from Iron Lightning in Tulsa. If you could find a former dealer with that old software you could look at the archived engine data. I am confident Stroker's in Dallas could do that too.
Look at the overall condition...foot peg and handgrip wear, how perfect is the metal on the lower fork tubes? The front of the voltage regulator will tell volumes..it's aluminum and only 4" off the ground right behind the front tire...that little guy takes a real sandblasting....
Best bet is to ask around and find a good Indy shop and have him look at it. Do a compression test and look for oil seeps/leaks, and make sure it shifts right and the clutch is ok. I'd ask for a history, but at 3000 miles that's one oil change---a quick read. that's funny........it'll need tires, as those are getting kind of old--ask Tapio about that.
Good luck, and let us know--in case you buy it, remember we're fond of pictures too.
