Riddle me this Fellow Big Doggers

I have a 2008 K-9 EFI.
The original EHC has been changed to a RIP2 years ago.
While working on the bike recently I noticed a broken red wire coming from the RELAY.
Wire is disconnected from relay and EVERYTHING works just fine.
I removed the relay and everything still works.
The wires going to the relay socket are Black, Red and 2 white wires.

This doesn't match the wiring diagram at all -- Anyone got a thought?

One of the old ones.
If it confuses you Mike, it‘s certainly over my pay grade, especially with electronics. Obviously the best thing is that it seems irrelevant. Maybe it was overlooked and not removed when the new EHC was installed? Looking forward to the responses here.

RIP2 had no notes about removal of relay, I know I did the install myself.
I'm thinking it might be powering the O2 sensors as that is one of the things the schematic shows off the relay but for some reason the other things don't appear to be controlled by the relay per schematic.

Not air ride as this system did not have factory air ride and schematic does not show a relay for air ride.

Nope - horn works with relay out.

I'm really leaning towards O2 sensors since disconnect them the bike will still run and most heated O2 sensors are powered via a relay or a power transistor.
O2 sensors should be grey, black, white, white. Do you have an engine service light on?

Not sure which relay you disconnected but the one for the O2 sensor heaters also powers the fuel pump, fuel injectors and ignition coil . That circuit also has a 25 amp circuit breaker so that can't be it. I'm looking at the original wire diagrams. Did the RIP2 come with different diagrams?

No engine service light.
Yes, I know the schematic says that the relay controls all that but I'm thinking there's an error in the schematic or it was changed.
RIP2 was a drop in replacement with one wire change but no relay related change. Also the relay for pump,o2 and injectors is wired to the VFI (efi controller) not the EHC
The Grey/black/white/white is one side of the connectors for the O2 sensors, the other side is shown in schematic as 2 black, Brown and red.

I'll take the meter out one day soon and buzz it out.

If all is working no need to go crazy but should be fun figuring out what that relay was used for. Does your bike have a 25amp circuit breaker ? I have a carbed K9 so no experience with the fuel injection wiring. If your not the original owner maybe it was installed for some add-on that was removed before you got the bike.

Bike has 40A/25A breakers as is normal.
No I am not original owner but it only had 1515 miles on it when I got it.
I truly suspect the schematic is wrong and the only thing powered by that relay is the O2 sensors.
There is no evidence of rewiring prior to my installing the RIP2

There are only two relays on the bike stock, Horn and O2s, fuel injectors coil, pump etc.

You wouldn’t have any trouble knowing if one of those were not working.

Schematic is correct.

Perhaps your has been modified.
Have you traced all the wires?
Bike had original EHC and VFI in it when I got it. I swapped out to a RIP2 when the EHC failed.
By wiring it slightly different than the schematic I could make it very hard to tell the difference with out something like this happening or without tracing the wires.
I do know there are different model VFI's that are used. Mine is an older one with a DB9 connector not a USB for the Protune port.
Which connector is on yours?

Yes I have confirmed on multiple EFI bikes. In fact, there is a factory crimp in that harness that can be problematic, that I always inspect.

The VFIs are circuited the same, regardless if they are the Delphi or the Marelli units.

In the end, as long as there is ignition power to the VFI and the components the relay powers above, the bike will run.
