I want to replace my start button control board. I opened it up and there's a j clip connector for the off/run button and there are two wires that come directly out of the board and then go down through the handlebar probably terminating at the ehc. I assume I'll have to cut those two wires and then splice them back into the two short wires coming from the replacement board. I assume one is for the start button and the other is for the right run signal. Is that right? I don't want to hook them up wrong and fry the new board...

Can't tell you what's inside the 04's but the 05's and above all the wires connected at a terminal on the board itself. If you have two wires hardwired to the board then I would assume that the new board will have these wires also and you will have to chase them down the bars to the connector mostly under the tank.

Good luck and let us know how it went,
Ray

Added; Heres a pic from BDMRidgeback's thread on replacing bars and you can see the connector. Make sure you fill your new connectors with lots of die-electric grease before putting them back together.

billy are you are talking about the brake switch wiring... DO NOT cut these... cuttin is not an option...

I believe there is a way to pull this... let me get my service manual...

So you mean this wire?

There should be as the manual says 2 set screws hold it in.

I believe Sul has changed his before and may be able to provide more input.

Billy mine is a 04 also do not cut any wires I replaced both of my pc boards last year your new board will come with the brake light wire, I wrapped some tape around the master cylinder and handlebar to hold everything in place so it wouldn't fall and smack my tank:bang: but for me the R&R of the brake light wire was the worst part. just below where the pickup on the end of the wire that goes in the housing there is a set screw it's a .050 Allen you can barely see it, loosen it just a couple of rounds and the wire should slide out and when you put the new one back in push it in until it firmly seats then pull it back out about a 1/8 in put some dielectric grease (yes gas man).on the connector for the pc board.if you have your master cylinder temporarily secured and the rest just hanging you can turn on the key and check and see if your brake light comes on/off when you want it to, this is where i messed up because i pushed the wire/pickup in to far i could barely touch the lever or the wind would cause brake light to come on, there is a magnet on the lever and when you pull the lever to activate the brakes/light, but they cannot touch if they are to close brake lights will come on to easy if there to far apart you would have to pull it to hard. hope this helps..Dave.

Mine looks the most like the picture posted at the top by Ray but in addition to that white j-clip that goes to the run/off button in mine it also has two wires coming from the center of the board and appear to be hard wired into the board itself ( no set screws). It looks like they would correspond to the other two control buttons: start and right turn signal. I ordered my new boards from WB and they should be here next week. Where can I get die-electric grease?

Billy those two wires are the front brake switch sensor as descibed.

That is why there is nothing like there on the left/clutch side.
