Rear Wheel Removal on an 08 Ridgeback Question

It is time for me to replace my back tire and the Service Manual says to remove the rear fender. So, the question is "Do I really have to remove the back fender?". The Service Manual also says to remove the belt guard also. When I work on something, I try to take apart the very minimum. I have never taken off a fender to change a tire. Is it because I have to slide the wheel so far forward to get the belt off? I plan on doing this tomorrow so I can be back on the road by Monday.

Thanks in advance,

Huw

PS I would also like to change the tire prior to the Panama City Beach Rally at the beginning of May.

No, you don't have to remove the fender. Jack the scoot up just to where the rear tire is barely touching the ground and remove parts as needed. After removing the belt off the pulley, remove the axle while noting where the spacers are located so they go back in the same position. Once the axle is out then jack the scoot up while supporting the tire till it can clear the fender. You get the idea; use your jack to your advantage... :D

Under the "How To" posts, there is a post on how to change a rear tire called "Rear Tire How to Change a 300 and Others". This will give you step by step guidance with pictures. You don't have to use the tire from the rim removal process but the actual tire removal from the bike is very beneficial. As a reminder, keep track of where your spacers are located. It easy!

I looked at the "How To" for "Rear Tire How to Change a 300 and Others" and it looked like the rear fender was off as if more work was going on then just changing the tire. It had a lot of info on changing a big 300mm tire without a tire changer which I have. So, after doing a search, I had to ask since I know many change their own tires or at least take the wheel off.

Thanks for the info,

Update,

The two cats (Isabella and Maggie) woke me up at 05:40am for me to feed them. So I decided to take off the back wheel for a tire change. It took me approximately 15 minutes to take off the back tire and then another 5 to 10 minutes for pictures!:D

Just as easy as my other bikes with messy chains!

It is still dark outside. So, here I sit surfing the internet (Big Dogbiker forum is an absolute must) drinking coffee.:D

PS I didn't need much room around the bike and didn't follow the service manual directions to remove the rear fender, etc. Thanks for the info.

Yes,

They still sell 330mm Venoms and I see they run approximately $280.

PS New Venom 330mm is balanced, polished, and on the bike.

Absolutely,

Especially when you know what you are doing and have the right tools.

I don't know. The last time I saw it, it was on the way to the curb to go out with the trash. :D

The bike seems happy with it's new back tire.:whoop:

Looks like I need to clean up the Black Lava Rock area. Everything grows in Louisiana.

Going riding tomorrow.:2thumbs:
