Rear chain drive conversion

Looking for someone whom has successfully performed a conversion from belt to chain final drive. The customer, and I, are tired of chasing rear belt noise and shudder-under-acceleration on a 2004 BD Chopper, left side drive. I have done plenty of chain conversions on Harleys, over the years, and I don't see why this would be any different. Just looking for someone whom already has either part numbers or specs regarding spacing, offset etc... I can machine spacers as needed, but don't want the bike down in MY garage while waiting on parts arrival. Looking for front sprocket offset and rear sprocket offset. Thanks.

There was a post on here by a guy name Vince .
Personally having both a chain and belt driven bike I prefer the belt over the chain.

Sounds like you know your shit,
Alignment is good? Tire, rotor, tranny?
Belt is in good shape?
Just had to ask

A 530 O-RING Chain which is what I Run & Use on ALL My Bikes ( AND MY 06 Pitbull has a 150 C.I. S&S Anniversary Motor) with both a BAKER 23 tooth Transmission sprocket and a 50 tooth Rear Anodized Sprocket are the way to go - even with a stock 117 C.I. S&S Motor. Use Chain wax instead of wet lubricants and if your running a soft tail remember to adjust it at center rear axle bolt to swing arm pivot bolt for maximum tension ( the tightest point between two pivot joints ) . Belts flex ,stretch, wear & tear and cannot stand torque and hard launches -despite the *FABLE* that they need No Maintenance .Replacing a belt with a 15 pound rear pulley and a 6 pound countershaft/transmission pulley is a time consuming, laborious BIG Job ,which requires removal of the inner, outer primary's,entire and complete Clutch assembly, and all engine crank pulley Compensating sprocket, primary chain and adjusters just to replace that crappy BELT . Do yourself a favor- go over to a 530 O-Ring chain and corresponding numerical transmission( Countershaft ) and rear sprocket tooth numerical equivalents for stock gearing ( 23 tooth for the transmission sprocket and a 50 tooth Rear Wheel Sprocket) to attain the stock gearing . I have a 1989 H-D FXR with a 96 S&S Motor with a BAKER 6 Speed Torquebox Tranny that runs low to mid 10s @ 133 MPH in the 1/4 Mile with the SAME Chain for the last 6 years. No failures or worries. That BDM belt is not up to snuff -especially if you launch that sucker at stoplights to open er up often.

No offense taken - just sharing .Been Racing S&S Powered & BAKER Drivetrain BIG C.I. bikes for awhile . Really dig the exchanging of tech info and "pit talk'. as I always say : How FAST can YOU afford to go ? GOOD work is NOT CHEAP - CHEAP WORK is NOT Good .

Had the same squeak and shutter on my 2004 chopper. Was going to got o chain myself. Ended up replacing the front gear, already had a new belt, and then aligned the complete system by strictly lifting bike and spinning tire forward and backwards until the belt no longer walked to either side no matter where I forced it from initially. The I was originally trying to set the alignment by using the axle position to the tic marks on the swing arm - or gap from front or back of the swing arm slot to the axle. This was a huge mistake. My bike is not aligned when is have the same gap on both side- i think they are almost 1/4 different/off from side to side.
As far as shutter - all I can say is tighten the belt - i know its bad for sprocket/belt wear. But if you want to be able to accelerate hard without shutter, its the only option you have.
I was looking at 520 chain - with from and rear sprocket - parts about $400 - if local shop wanted $600 to install. But after I got the belt to stop squeaking and the shutter gone, I've never looked back.
So- jsut to let you know its possible to fix your symptoms without forking out the cash for the chain conversion.
