Pushrod Adjustment Video

PHATASS, Good video!Thanks for the time spent doing it.For someone who doesn't turn wrenches that good a visual is always better.Now for a stupid question,is pushrods part of maint. of bike or does something happen to make you have to adjust them?

Great job, anybody can do it now after seeing a video like this. I would encourage everybody to do more videos like this one, It would be fantastic to have a video for any topics from service to cams or pipes or any mods wow great great job.

Appreciate all the feedback. I've seen throughout the forum that this is one of those tasks so many are uncomfortable accomplishing themselves. Glad I could help and save a fellow rider a few bucks while gaining a little confidence and pride. It's not always just about the ride. Some of our greatest experiences on motorcycles can happen right in our garages!

Most overlook the pushrod adjustment as part of normal maintenance. If you have a noisy valve train, this is usually the first step taken to quiet down the motor. If the valves are out of adjustment for too long, it could have significant wear on your engine. Therefore, I adjust mine whenever the engine begins to get noisy.

Good vid:2thumbs: And yes the locknuts always appear to get tighter after you have ridden the bike thus the wrench does fly off when you break the locknut loose!

dont forget the screen in the case. if that clogs it slows top end oiling.

All S&S adjustable pushrods have 32 threads per inch. Therefore 24 flats or 4 turns out will be the correct adjustment as long as they are stock. Others along with myself have tried the 4 turns on the S&S and still had excessive noise. Adjusted to 3 turns out and very minimal noise. This is when you just have to listen to your scoot ;>)

if i may add


tappet/lifters have .20 of total travel
you want to be at the center of that travel which is .10
S&S rods are 32 threads per inch so 3.2 threads = .10"
+ or - as per personal preference

when/if you install the limiters the total travel is .10
center of that is .05
less dependant of bleed down or pump up
