Pulley Hub Question

I have an 08 mastiff LE, after my 2nd pulley was worn out (teeth) I sent it to supermax and had poly teeth installed. When I got it back and installed it I found I couldn't get the belt aligned. After further investigation I found the pulley was level with the front pulley, it was recessed 1/4". I had to have a spacer machined to space the pulley out slightly.

After a few thousand miles I ended up snapping all 5 pulley bolts and had to get the bolts machined out of the hub and rep ain't the pulley.

The hub has a slight raised spot that fits "into" a recessed cavity on the pulley. With the spacer between the hub and pulley nothing fits into the pulley. I'm wondering if that has/had anything to do with the bolts breaking? I figure the raised hub fitting into the pulley may prevent some of the lateral stress'. Is this correct?

So, the final question I guess is, was there supposed to be a spacer? And if so, is there a special kind that would fit correctly?

Supermax said to send the pulley and nothing else, I didn't "think" there was a spacer when I pulled it, but when neither me nor my mechanic could get the belt to align, I figured I must've had one on and didn't pull it and supermax pulled it off and didn't return it.

Thank you.

There shouldn't be any spacers. It's a machined fit from the hub to the pulley. send me a e-mail address and I'll send you the wheel chapter out of my service manual.

Correct with not having a spacer on rear hub. Something else is off on the bike. Wheel axle spacers are in correct way? Not off another bike? What about front drive pulley on transmission? If it's loose, you will never get belt to align.

Thanks... I've got the manual, and it says nothing about a spacer. But my old mechanic, was from the previous "Big Dog Tampa" and he's the one that put the spacer in.

Wheel spacers are original and only go in one way...

The only other thing is, the front pulley was replaced a year ago.

This line should have read: "I found the pulley was NOT level with the front pulley"

You are correct. It sounds like Supermax got your pulley off a little bit.

To make it work as is, you need a spacer that has a protrusion on one side (that measures the same as the one on the pulley) and a recess on the other (That matches the one on the hub). That should take care of the shearing (sideways) stress on the pulley bolts.

Aslo make sure to lengthen the pulley bolts the same amount as the spacer is thick. And be sure to locktite. If they come loose, nothing will stop those bolts from breaking.

Was the front pulley replaced, and after that you noticed the alignment issue? It's possible they sent you a front pulley for a 330 ridgeback, and not the standard. The 330 Ridgeback pulley has a slight offset.
Why would supermax modify the rear pulley in such a way that you would need to space it now? I thought all they did was resurface the teeth area?

Correct, all they do is resurface.... The only thing I was thinking was maybe a spacer was "stuck" on and I missed it....

They replaced the pulley from another bike sitting in the back.... It was green, can't remember the model, but it wasn't a 330.
