Primary cover leaking

I have a 2007 K9 and I have tried to seal the primary cover 4 or 5 times doing it the way the manual instructs and any other way I can think of.
A few years ago I saw in a magazine in it was an advertisement for a improved rubber seal, The difference I noticed in the improved seal was instead of being square shape it was round snd had ribs running the long way. The ribs looked as if they insreraased the amount of sealing service and I wouldn't be surprised iif was a slightly larger diameter. If any one knows a vendor that can get one give a shout.

Whlie the cover is off, take a fine flat file and go over both mating surfaces lightly. Ive had 2 covers that had a lip on the mating surface. Until filing it down, it would never seal. Good luck with the gasket.

Make sure its the seal. Papa Stein had the same issue, so he thought, it turns out the vent was spewing a little and looked like the primary was leaking. Good luck

I did try the file it didn't seem to help. I also put a layer of black permatex under and over their rubber band. Still no seal poor design. I have no problem with my 2004 with its paper gasket.

You might be able to soak the oring gasket in oil to make it swell to seal better. IDK. Just a thought

Soaking the o-ring sounds almost too easy to actually work, but after 4 or 5 goes with permatex I'd throw anything at that cover too lol. Curious how it turns out.

oil leaks from primary cover, inspection cover or drain plug seat?
purchased some years ago primary gasket and inspection cover gasket (sqare profile) at big dog is back (Matts shop).
Maybe bigdogpartskingpin sells them too.
Check your primary on a glass table for flatness.
If it isnt flat bring some sandpaper with doubleside adhesive tape on flat base and grind it till the cover is flat.
if it is o.k. start fixing at the middle screws.

I know this has been well covered, but maybe not everyone has heard. How much fluid are you running in the primary? The recommended 32 oz is too much in the 05-11 primary. It causes pressure problems that result in primary leaks. Most run 18-20 oz and it stops the leaks. I fought primary leaks for years. I finally got tired of it and had an open primary installed. Later on, after joining this forum, I learned that a quart is too much fluid, and was probably the cause of my leaks.

Those flat gaskets seem really picky once the cover has been off a few times. A ribbed seal sounds like it would forgive a little surface mismatch better.

Yeah, the flat ones seem to lose their patience fast if the cover isn't perfectly true. A little ribbed profile would make way more sense here.
