Price on spike air cleaner.

I wish I had more money.
That is so funny. Did you see the tiny print below the picture?

After hearing the D&M spiked air filters suck I started looking around. Found a bad ass air filter on the Big Bear Choppers website. I spoke to mike in the parts department and he is checking to see if the will directly mount to a S&S G carb. He quoted me 390 which well beat the $500 + for a D& M twister. More to follow

In thoery, the more free flowing an intake, the better performance, right?

Whimmer machine has a chart of filters flow rated in cubic feet per minute. According to them a standard Harley filter is rated at 130CFM and their best flowing filter is the spike which is rated at 236.10 CFM. Not all spikes are created equally.

You've got to consider more than just the filter alone. Most of the filters are probably sufficient. It's the means of air delivery after it goes thru the filter that limits the performance of most of them. Look close at the D&M (especially the dual "Boss") compared to the S&S dual runner. Not even close.

So, as stated earlier. I'm looking at installing the S&S Single Bore Dual tuned intake on an 04 Chopper with fully modified Triple X G carb. Anyone running this setup? Is it worth the money? I do take looks into consideration but that not all I'm concerned about. A little extra HP never hurts!

i had a shit load of problems in the beginning with my D&M Spike. Worked great pointing up but pointing forward it would stumble around 70. I fought it every way and the final solution was to take 2 filter covers and put ot over the filter istelf. DM customer service said to do this since it would limit RAM air effect. That is a quick fix if you are having this problem.

Henry, I checked out the link you posted and I had a buddy who ordered parts through them. I don't know if they have new ownership but lets just say he had to contact the better business Bureau over problems he had with them.

the filter will mount directly to the S&S G Carb but he is not sure about the breather support. They are currently out of stock. I am going to wait on his word to see if this will work without having to modify anything. He called me today to explain that he would check to see what they need to do to make sure this works with a 107". He will get back to me as soon as they get them in. So far they have been very good with their customer service. My question to mike was that if they sell me the filter and it does not mount with the breather support can I return it for a refund, His response was that he will make sure that before he sells it too me he will let me know how to mount the filter. I will let you know once I know.

I believe it does not comply with all the stupid fuel restrictions the put on vehicles today they are a California company.

Thanks for the heads up, I ended up not ordering one due to the issues that people were having with performance. I like show but if it hurt go to bad, not really for me. I am not trying to make my bike a rocket but if the power is there I dont want to lose any of it either.

Sorry to hear your buddy had so much trouble, Hope he at least got his money back or a decent product.

do the d&m intakes come with crank case breathers? will those make a difference with performance?
They are sold separately (small spike) and "no" it doesn't change a thing.
You just have to re-adjust your carb. for the additional air when you add the duel spikes, no biggie.

I had to turn mine vertical other wise a strong headwind or running above 65 would make it bog the engine down. Runs fine in the vert position but probably could use more airflow.
