Wimmer's up and over Dual Runner

Here is the new up and over dual runner from Lee Wimmer. The total price was 1300.00. The price was be less for the type of stacks you would like. This includes installation, filters, stacks, and matching enrichner knob. Installation was done in hour and half and Mr. Wimmer's located in Myrtle Beach, S.C. No problems and some increase of power.

If this is the one you are looking at then you would also need a mounting "Bracket". It's listed a bit lower on their page for another $50 bucks.

Make sure you search "spike covers" on here first so you know what a lot of people feel about these spike covers.

Yep, mine robbed me of alot of power(had it dyno'd) I ened up cutting it off at the elbow, sliding on a K&N filter. Way better and I love the look. I have the spike & filter if anyone wants it. My spike end is the bullnose style end, not the one in the pic that can kill ya if you fall into it.

Yep...just proceed with caution...You either love them or hate them.....I have a spike just moved back to stock...

Note: the 180 degree slots might not cut it, I would look for 360. Next should you choose to get one, you should consider mounting it vertically....based on people's experience here on the forum.

good luck and enjoy it - definitely looks good:up:

Oooops...forgot - you will need to re-route the breather tube, and I would check on the vendor....not sure and not starting anything here, but if you value the opinions of people here on the forum....I do remember seeing some negative press on that vendor.... http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/dealerships/7370-welcome-texas-thump-cycles.html

spike air cleaner for 08 K-9 EFI

hey guys i am looking at maybe installing a spike air cleaner on my fuel injected k-9 does anyone know where to look i also was told that it hurt the way it ran on carb models but it doesn't effect the fuel injected ones :bang:

SICK BOY
My experience with the spikes is that they are a waste of money. they offer all "show" and no "go". And i really don't want to look like the rest of the lemmings out there. The only reason people buy them is because they look cool.

I got a brand new D&M brand spike in chrome with the mounting bracket and adapted for the vent line will sell for 500 bucks. Have 750 in it and only used for about 200 miles. PM me if interested if not I'll sell on ebay.

I can't believe that. EFI needs air just like carbs do. It killed my dyno numbers so I cut mine off and slide on a K&N air filter. Looks and runs great.

They both use air so I'm not sure why someone would think that.

And I'm 100% in agreement with that!!! :D

I'm running a 107 with chromed Triple X Carb. I'm considering going with the S&S Single Bore tuned intake. Anyone running this setup? Pro's Con's????

I've seen and installed most all of the spike air cleaners on the market and I've yet to see one that will out perform the S&S dual runner setup AND IT LOOKS NICE.

Outside that, at least for performance, the S&S teardrop with the Desperado cover is very hard to beat. There's just so many of them out there. It really doesn't stand out in a crowd. We tested a couple of 111" engines before and after from the S&S teardrop setup (again, a VERY GOOD setup) and the S&S dual runner. Both times the bikes gained about 10-12 hp and ft/lbs torque.

The D&M and Wimmer setups are pretty popular and I sell lots of them also but they really do NOT perform as good than the stock Big Dog air cleaner setup. To each his own. Some people want that look no matter what price they have to pay to get it, even lose power.

Air Cleaner Flow

The following are assumptions on my part. The stock air cleaner base on the Big Dog or S&S have a radius or bell entry design. This bell design allows approx 35% more air flow than a straight entry. This is why stock Harley air cleaners without a bell entry perform so poorly. The other issue with Spikes would be the short turn radius of the pipe. The air tends to follow the larger outside radius and creates vacuums and turbulence on the short side radius. It take approx 6 pipe diameters downstream for the air to expand and fill the pipe evenly. The carb is much closer than that. The end result is that the air entering the carb is traveling at different velocities and will give false signals to the air bleeds and venturie in a carbureted system and possibly on the injected systems. This is probably why there is so many different oppinions about the performance of the spikes relative to there verticle mounting, horizontal mounting or the type of system the are used on. This is all probably air flow 101 to all of the poeple that do port work.

Big Bear Choppers Spiked intake air filter

After hearing the D&M spiked air filters suck I started looking around. Found a bad ass air filter on the Big Bear Choppers website. I spoke to mike in the parts department and he is checking to see if the will directly mount to a S&S G carb. He quoted me 390 which well beat the $500 + for a D& M twister. More to follow

In thoery, the more free flowing an intake, the better performance, right?

Whimmer machine has a chart of filters flow rated in cubic feet per minute. According to them a standard Harley filter is rated at 130CFM and their best flowing filter is the spike which is rated at 236.10 CFM. Not all spikes are created equally.
