Pressure Plates?

I seem to be noticing a new trend on 2008's as they start to mile up, not seen in earlier years.

Symptom: trans slipping at 3500-4000 rpms. Per Baker on the 1st job: used heavier spring, new clutch, dial indicate main shaft, check and change bearings, even an extra plate - all to no avail.

Fix: Replace a seemingly perfect pressure plate with no visible issues. Problem solved. I am now just seeing this for the 3rd time.

Curious if anyone else is experiencing this, like 05's with the clutch carrier and 06's with main shafts. :loony::job:

I must be the only guy who hasn't experienced ANY Clutch or Transmission problems on the stock DSSC I ran on my bikes -and I've beaten them to death.

Rant on:

5000 miles on my 08 ridgeback. Two "bent" (yes bent Baker carriers) and the result of this was leaving me with bent shift forks and shift rod. Total cost now and still not rideable over a grand. (which includes the Baker rebuild)

I have a Bandit assembly siitting in front of me on the table to install and hope this will solve the problems I had with the Baker set up. (yea I know this shoud have been one of my first mods even before a sissy bar)

Just my opinion but if you're gonna spin the 330 tire (I have done this 5 times at the max) prepare to pay.

Rant off:

My pressure plate was replaced around 12,000 miles, for the reason you stated, no problems since

Tank, both me and my cousin have 08 K-9's with roughly 10,000 on each. So far no noticeable slipage. 2 questions:

1. What mileage did the bikes have when this was reported ?

2. Off subject but you mention the carrier on the 05 and main shaft on 06. I was under the impression the main shaft was weak on both 05 & early 06. Is that wrong, 05 main shaft OK ?

Thanks for the heads-up on the pressure plate. Good to have a guy that see's several bikes weigh in on problems & potential issues.

Mine started slipping around 4K miles, but slipped in 4th gear only. Dealer installed a shim behind clutch pack & problem was fixed for approx 3K miles. After every clutch adjustment, everything seems fine for the 1st 200 miles, then the slipping starts again. Now I have 15K miles & anything over 1/2 throttle makes the clutch slip in 3rd - 6th gear. Going to order a Bandit in the next few weeks.

Thanks! One of the bikes had approximately 15K, the other close to 40. The main shaft issue is mostly an 06 thing.

By the way, the new pressure plates are made of a different material and seem and are a different design, the ring is built in and does not move.
