Preferred Parts

I have 2006 K9 with a 117. Is there a benefit of buying gaskets and such from a Big Dog parts reseller, or should/can they just be bought from a Harley/S&S parts reseller?

The vendors supporting this forum are fantastic. I usually deal only with them, but I am always curious if Big Dog took a standard X part and now it is specific to the model.

For example, my shifting linkage on my BD chopper has this cool POW/MIA design on it. I would like to see what options I can find for getting one for my K9, but it appears longer than any customized ones I can find. And I have had Zero luck so far. Even though this is probably a standard HD part, the length makes it unique.

Are you using extended controls?
If so JP CYCLES carries a shift rod extender.
I use it on my k-9 cause somewhere in the house I lost the extended shift rod (I'll find it eventually hopefully) but in the meantime this was an easy fix for the problem.

I bought both my bikes second hand. I don't think either has extended controls, but I could be wrong. The shift linkage picture above is on my Chopper. I had thought that maybe I would just swap it over to my primary bike, the K9. The K9 linkage is a fair bit longer.

I know it is not a complicated piece to machine or anything, but I personally don't have the machinery or skill to make a custom one myself. I am not even sure I know what I would want it to look like. It just seemed like a cool personalization that I'd like to do to my K9.

You can use normal HD parts of you know what crosses over on the older ones. Primary gaskets, evo motors, twin cam stuff. Ect. But if you want to get big dog parts not just HD use one of the supporting vendors as if it they will die off.

Measure the one on the K-9 and tell us how long it is (not including the heim joints)

I just measured my K9 and its 12 3/4" End to end so maybe it does have the extended kit on it. My Bulldog is 16.5 and does have the extended kit on it.
BTW: if you want to sell the POW-MIA rod Please give me the first shot.

Odd -- Bigdogpartskingpin lists the standard shift rod for a k-9 as 14"
I've have to check my bikes tomorrow and see what they are.

Dont forget you have about 2 inches in threads. About an inch on each end for heim adjustment. Js.
