My 2 up seat also did some damage so i cut off all but 2 of the cups, just enough to hold it in place. Need to keep at the small scratches with scratch remover thow.

Ok Guys, here is what I use. My handle bar bushings failed on me sometime back and caused the throttle cables to put some deep scratches on my tank. The dealer replaced the bushings and made note that if I could not polish out the scratches BDM would redo my take. I took the dog to the same guy that painted my Buick GN “Black” and he used a 3M product called “ Finesse-it II” Finishing Material Part Number 051131-05928 and rubbed all the scratched right off, next he used another 3M product called “Perfect –it” Foam Polishing Pad Glaze Part Number 051131-059956 to remove all the swirl marks. Both or these products contain no silicone or wax. I have been using this to remove the marks left by the suction cups by both seats (two up and solo seat) works great for me. It is pricey but well worth it. :2thumbs:

Everytime I ride, I wipe the fender and the cups witha microfiber towel with some detailer spray and I have never even gotten a single scuff on mine.

It has to be perfectly clean when put on.

It can be rubbed out to look like new again.
I do the same thing. I only put the pad on when I know a girl will be riding or I have my T Bag on the bike. I first clean the rear fender really well with auto detailer then wipe off the suction cups. It only take about a minute and I haven't had any scratches on the fender yet (from the pillion pad that is).

When I store my pillion I always keep it in a sealed plastic bag which helps keep the cups from normal dirt and dust when just sitting out. It still leaves a slight ring but not much. Wiping off the cups helps but there are still dirt particles on there even if you can't see them.

These bikes have clear coats on them...a recon guy with some 600 grit wet sandpaper can make it look brand new. Stop by most any clean up shop or body shop.

Thanks for the tips guys.
So where can I find this elbow grease you speak of? Is that a new product cause I've never used it.
I'll probably see if I can get these scratches out this weekend.

I think we all just need to quit putting fat chicks on our bikes.

That 3M film works great. I had it put on my sportbike tank where my belt buckle and jacket zipper used to scratch the hell out of the paint, also used it on my boat and truck to protect from rock chips.

Where to buy paint protection film?

I may have missed some of the discussion here, but where do you buy the paint protection film to minimize the pillon pad suction disks from marking the clearcoat? I live a long way from the nearest Big Dog dealership. Is something like Saran Wrap or similar plastic film tough enough or thick enough to protect? Thanks for the responses.

I have my pillion pad on all the time, and there are no marks on my fender! I always spray the fender and the suction cups with Honda polish before I put it on, and spit on the cups. You have to be super careful about keeping that thing clean!

Curious.....

Does anyone know if you can remove the 3M protection film without damage to the paint if you decide later on that it is not wanted or needed?

Thanks

I ran a detail shop for years. The 3M paint protectant can be removed but i wouldn't recommend it. That shit is a real motherfucker to get off. There are a bunch of quality products out there ti minimize the scratches left from the P pads. However i wouldn't recommend wetsanding them. They can be buffed out. If you run your fingernail over a scratch and it gets hung up, thats when you need to wetsand. If it doesn't, you can probably buff it out. Remember everytime you wetsand clearcoat you're removing some of it so if it's done too often eventually you will go through and the only fix for that is repaint. Try polish first, if that dont do it try mixing some polish with a mild compound that way you wont go too aggressive and swirl the shit out of your bike.
