Paint bubbling!!!

So, lambov12 (Frank) tells me that the stock HD cap won't fit without the paint saver on an 08 k9. Does anyone know if I can get a vented cap to use on an 08 k9 without using the stock paint saver?
The paint saver ring fits in the gas fill like a Harley cap would so if you take the paint saver ring off any vented RH Harley cap will work. (if you have dual tanks just the right side is vented. DON"t vent the left side unless you want to repaint your left gas tank)

Really? I am pretty sure I tried my FXDB Harley cap in my big dog with the paint saver in and it fit. I'll double check hen I get it back from the painter. I'd have to guess that if the HD cap fits with the saver, then it won't without

I have a 2004 chopper so that's what I know. I do know that if you look for a paint saver the only difference is vented or non vented. I've never seen different sizes. Of course BD could have had tanks made special but I doubt it because they advertize paint savers for BD and say they fit Harley as well. You may have had a paint saver on the Harley. I took off the paint saver ring and a Harley cap fit good.

Great. I hope it works... I will try as soon as I get the tank back from the painter. I appreciate the info

So... got the tank back. Chris Cruz did a great job on it. I decided to scrap the paint saver just so that I can keep an eye on the edge... Chris told me that if I see any kind of bubbling on the edge, then he can fix it easily (and cheaply) as opposed to if the ring is on there and I don't see the issue until it is an inch or so into the paint. He added an epoxy ring around the paint line to help bolster the edge.

So, I went with a harley style cap... all aluminum and vented at the center. This is a joker machine piece... seems to vent well.

Hope it works for you I know how you feel. I tried everything the only thing that worked for me was to get Mr.Wright to make me his washer that goes under the paint saver and instead of using silicone to seal it I used a gasoline resistant gasket material cut to the size of the washer (no silicone) and JB Weld the paint saver into the tank. Still working great after 6 months.

Ok guys..... since the new software it is a nightmare to chase old threads.... I had one on how to remove the original bung.... can NOT find it now...

@Bdm4ever needs help on this one.

I was lucky to have an awesome member of this Forum to send me a hand-made removal tool.

@BWG56 Ker, don´t even think about it.... Hammer & Chisel is not a good idea!
