Oh yeah.......I forgot about the full weekend I had to spend polishing aluminum. I know the value of the chrome package now. I had to replace the front caliper recently, so one piece I won't have to do next time. The worst is where aluminum meets paint and chrome where you can't really polish it. The shop I bought it from said they charge $300 for a full bike polish. I felt a lot better about spending a few hours with the drill and polish....

How often do y'all polish the aluminum ? Has anybody priced chroming a wheel ?

I just bought my '06 and it was pretty clean. I had work to do also, but I figured it was still a good deal given what you end up with. I mean, would you really plunk down nearly $20K for a brand new Harley that's exactly like hundreds of others you see every day ?

I fill up the tank and clean her right after a ride. The routine makes it easier to get it over with instead of procrastinating, and it makes it easier to get on next time knowing you're ready to roll.
I clean my before every ride and I gas it up at the end of the ride at a gas station right by my house. It is too hot to clean after I ride.

Spot on Ted. Although usually when you first pick up a scoot, and I mean any brand, there is work to do for it to meet everyone's personal standards. Some guys are happy with dull aluminum and mediocre chrome, as long as they're riding.. so be it.
When I got Sue's Tejas I spent three full days doing disassembly and polishing, then it was simple upkeep..
This is how it was picked up.

I had mine chromed when I first bought it. The dealer charged me 4500.00 and chromed all the aluminum except the triple trees.
