Some people are proud of how bad theirs look:( ... Built to be ridden yes but also to be respected and treated with the love and appreciation most claim to have for the BDM brand but like anything actions and effort mean more than words and show in the appearance.

Most likely you will be in that with any big dog purchased. These bikes are over 10 years old now at least and most likely whoever is selling is doing it because they don't ride it anymore.

You never know what you'll find either so you can easily end up with even more work once you start getting into it. Then if you consider what you want to do with personalization you can easily spend more

:agree: Any BD I have seen in person looks unloved, with the exception of most of the forum members I've met. Weekly detailing is part of the maintenance program, it's not a huge investment of your time, an hour or two a week to keep your beauty in better than showroom condition..

Dealing with old cars and bikes takes TLC and most men are to damn lazy to do it themselves. But hell thats the way we get some good deals sometimes

I just bought my '06 and it was pretty clean. I had work to do also, but I figured it was still a good deal given what you end up with. I mean, would you really plunk down nearly $20K for a brand new Harley that's exactly like hundreds of others you see every day ?

I fill up the tank and clean her right after a ride. The routine makes it easier to get it over with instead of procrastinating, and it makes it easier to get on next time knowing you're ready to roll.

Yep, just clean it up every weekend or when ever during the week and it will look good all the time. Having a cover really helps in case you do not get it out for a week or 2. It is pretty nice when you go for a ride and you come out of a bar and people are taking pictures of your bike and they say it looks really nice and then they ask the year and tell them and they say it is well taken care of. It is for the love of the bike as there are not many.

Spot on Ted. Although usually when you first pick up a scoot, and I mean any brand, there is work to do for it to meet everyone's personal standards. Some guys are happy with dull aluminum and mediocre chrome, as long as they're riding.. so be it.
When I got Sue's Tejas I spent three full days doing disassembly and polishing, then it was simple upkeep..
This is how it was picked up.
